Iman Harriott ~
It felt different walking into court, hand in hand with Alistair this time round. Yes the sea of reporters, camera crews and the sad herd of the unemployed audience that had nothing to do better to do, where still flooding us, but I never allowed their commentary and useless opinions/questions get to me.
I felt stronger this time. My back was straight as to stepped with pride, not a stumble or weakness could break my stride.
It felt like a fresh of breath air once we made it into the building, the glass doors closing onto the crowded scene as the quick transition of loud to quiet took place. Months ago I would've compared this building to inhaling toxic fumes at a waste collection- my mental health has really come far.
Alistair and I both took our sunglasses of, soon staring into each other with relief "fucking hooligans" Alistair breathed out, as we both released a chuckle from his statement
"The price of going against a politicians" I replied, placing my sunglasses in my bag
Silenced lingered around us for a brief moment, Alistair taking my hand, becoming even more relieved as I wanted to melt just by the endearing touch of his flesh alone.
"Are you okay though?" Slight worry in his tone
My grin was confident, reassuring him enough that I was going to be okay "yes, I'm okay and I'm ready to put this all behind me"
"I know..." Alistair simply said "...you're ready and you're gonna smash it"
"I better or that's my career down the toilet" I half joked, seeing the expression on Alistair's bearded face, nothing but a panic glint in his green eyes
"Iman," his tone dipped into slight disappointment "don't say that, that's not going to happen." He was firm
I sighed, "hopefully it doesn't, but look what I'm up against. They are not holding back when it comes to me. You see how they spoke to me 2 weeks after giving birth. I'm not saying I'm going to give up and lose hope, but I just have to fight as much as I can and hope for the best...or pray for the worst" I was truthful in my statement
I still think about those headlines they conjured up and made me look like an absolute slut and a liar, it even sounds believable if you didn't know me. Even way before everyone was exposed, I knew from the very moment that speaking out was going to put my whole career in jeopardy, but I'd rather speak my truth than walk around and act like what Harry did didn't nearly send me to an early grave.
Alistair stepped forward, lowering his neck, as our foreheads connected- a moment so small but so big as our breathes laboured in the intensity of our compassion for one another.
"No matter what the verdict says, I will always believe you and stand by you and so many other people will- you are not alone" Alistair's words struck me, like a Cupid arrow into my heart
"I will always believe you"...
The words stung- no it felt as if I was being thrown into the pricks of a cactus, becoming immune to the spikes that pierced my skin until no more blood could be drawn out.
Feeling the emotions of love but also hurt by the four letter word by the man that has shown he can hate me but also love me is an experience I would never wish for anyone to go through.
Those words brought me back to when he blamed me. In my accommodation, knowing he was going to blame me and he did.
But hey he believed me in the end so yay me I guess.
