Matheus

He still couldn't believe it.

Even after leaving the bathroom.

Even after Briar showed him the pregnancy tests three more times.

Even after hugging her for nearly ten straight minutes like an emotional fool.

Matheus still felt overwhelmed by one impossible truth.

He was going to be a father.

Good Lord.

A father.

The word alone nearly brought tears back into his eyes again.

Currently, Briar sat comfortably on the living room couch laughing helplessly while watching him pace dramatically back and forth.

Meanwhile Matheus had completely lost all remaining ability to behave normally.

"We need a doctor's appointment."

"Yes."

"We need vitamins."

"Yes, husband."

"We need healthy food."

"Yes, husband."

"We need to baby-proof the house."

Briar blinked.

"Matheus..."

"What?"

"I'm only a few weeks pregnant."

"That's still a baby."

Honestly?

He knew he sounded ridiculous already.

But he couldn't stop.

Because suddenly his entire world had changed.

Everything felt different now.

More important.

More meaningful.

There was a tiny life growing inside Briar.

Their child.

His child.

And somehow—

that realization filled his chest with terrifying amounts of love already.

Suddenly Briar burst out laughing again.

Matheus immediately stopped pacing.

"What?"

"You look like you're about to start crying again."

"...I might."

That only made her laugh harder.

He loved hearing her laugh.

Especially now.

Especially carrying their baby.

Without hesitation, Matheus walked toward her immediately before kneeling directly in front of the couch.

Then carefully—

almost reverently—

he placed one hand softly against her still-flat stomach.

And honestly?

Emotion hit him violently all over again.

"There's really a baby in there," he whispered almost to himself.

Briar's expression softened instantly afterward.

"Yes."

Good Lord.
