Matheus
From the driver's seat, Matheus watched his three friends emerge from the convenience store carrying multiple paper bags in both hands.
He blinked slowly.
Good Lord.
They really were planning to stay at his estate for quite some time.
Rafael struggled dramatically while balancing several grocery bags.
"If I die carrying these," he complained loudly, "tell people I died bravely."
"You're carrying chips and beer," Lucas pointed out.
"That doesn't lessen the emotional burden."
Flavio laughed while placing his bags carefully into the back of the pickup truck.
"We bought enough food and drinks to survive for at least a week," Rafael proudly informed Matheus after opening the passenger door.
Matheus only shook his head helplessly before starting the engine.
"I regret inviting all of you."
"No you don't," Lucas replied immediately while climbing into the backseat.
Unfortunately...
he was right.
The drive back to the estate was filled with nonstop teasing, random arguments, and Flavio loudly singing old football chants horribly off-key.
By the time they arrived home, Matheus already had a headache again.
The moment the truck stopped in front of the mansion, the three men immediately unloaded everything and headed straight into the kitchen.
Matheus followed behind them more slowly while watching the chaos unfold.
Apparently, his friends purchased enough snacks, dry goods, alcohol, and random junk food to prepare for the apocalypse.
"Well," Rafael announced proudly while organizing bottles inside the refrigerator, "we definitely won't starve."
"You also bought enough alcohol to poison a village," Matheus observed.
Lucas looked offended.
"That's called preparation."
Flavio placed several snack packs into one of the cabinets.
"And besides," he added dramatically, "your wine fridge looked lonely after last night."
Matheus sighed while opening the refrigerator.
They really had emptied most of his alcohol stock during their celebration.
Honestly impressive.
And slightly horrifying.
"So," Matheus asked while leaning casually against the kitchen island, "what's everyone planning to do today?"
Flavio immediately raised his hand.
"We should hit the driving range later this afternoon."
Lucas nodded in agreement.
"Yes. We need to sweat all the beer out of our systems."
"I'm in," Rafael added while casually popping cashew nuts into his mouth.
Then Lucas suddenly looked toward the others.
"Oh right," he said. "Are we attending Josef's wedding?"
Matheus glanced up immediately.
Josef Almeida.
