Matheus

When the woman accompanying Josef and Rafael disappeared toward the waterfalls, the three of them were left standing near the opposite side of the road.

Matheus slowly looked around.

And honestly—

the place felt unreal.

Tall lush trees surrounded both sides of the wide pathway, their branches swaying gently beneath the cool afternoon breeze.

Only a few vehicles had passed since they arrived.

The atmosphere remained peaceful.

Quiet.

Untouched.

He could hear birds chirping somewhere high above the trees while the soft rushing sound of the waterfalls echoed beautifully nearby.

Paradise.

That was the only word his mind could think of.

Switzerland truly looked breathtaking.

Several moments later, movement near the entrance caught his attention.

The woman who had escorted Josef and Rafael earlier was now returning.

But this time—

another woman walked beside her.

The moment Matheus saw her clearly—

his entire body froze.

Briar.

His heartbeat slammed hard against his ribcage.

For one brief second, he genuinely questioned whether he was hallucinating.

Because standing there beneath the soft afternoon sunlight...

wearing a simple but elegant sage-green dress...

was the woman who had occupied his thoughts for months.

The woman he dreamed about.

The woman he crossed an entire continent to see again.

Briar.

She looked even more beautiful than he remembered.

And suddenly—

everything else around him faded into the background.

The waterfalls.

The guests.

The wedding.

Everything.

All he could focus on was her.

God.

He missed her.

Far more than he realized.

The closer she walked toward them, the harder it became for him to breathe normally.

Then she finally stopped directly in front of them.

Matheus realized too late that somebody was speaking already.

Apparently his friends were introducing themselves to the women.

How?

How were they all acting so normal right now?

Because his brain had completely stopped functioning.

"Gentlemen," Briar said softly, "this is Jenny. She's my right hand."
