Briar

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Briar groaned and blindly reached for her phone.

Her alarm clock.

She forgot to turn it off last night before going to sleep.

Still half asleep, she fumbled for the phone on her bedside table before finally managing to silence the irritating sound.

The moment she tried sitting up—

"Ow!"

Pain immediately shot through her poor, bruised backside.

She collapsed back onto the mattress dramatically.

"Wonderful," she muttered weakly. "Still alive... unfortunately."

She barely slept properly the entire night.

No matter how she positioned herself, her aching butt refused to cooperate.

Sleeping on her back hurt.

Sleeping on her side hurt.

Even turning hurts.

At around midnight, she finally gave up and used a hot compress to ease the pain and help the bruising.

Unfortunately, it only helped a little.

The damage had already been done.

And yes—

The bruise was real.

Very real.

Stretching her arms carefully, Briar slowly climbed out of bed and shuffled toward the bathroom.

After brushing her teeth and washing her face, she stared at herself in the mirror.

Messy hair.

Sleepy eyes.

And the expression of someone betrayed by her own buttocks.

Lovely.

After combing her hair, she tied it into a loose ponytail before changing into comfortable clothes—a loose white oversized shirt with a giant smiley face printed across the front and a pair of denim shorts.

Looking at herself again, she couldn't help but laugh softly.

Most people mistook her for someone much younger.

Which honestly amused her, considering she would turn twenty-nine in a few months.

Twenty-nine.

Still single.

Very single.

As in—

SVSB.

Single Very Super Blessed.

At least that was what she jokingly told people whenever they asked why she still didn't have a boyfriend.

Truthfully, relationships simply never became her priority.

Life abroad kept her busy enough already.

As she slowly headed downstairs, memories of last night resurfaced in her mind.

The moment she arrived home yesterday evening, she immediately kissed her grandmother on the cheek before trying to escape upstairs unnoticed.

Unfortunately, her grandmother noticed everything.

"Briar," her grandmother suddenly called out.

Briar froze dramatically.

"Yes, Grandma?"
