Briar

Briar practically had nothing planned for the entire day.

After her entertaining phone call with Olga earlier that morning, she decided to spend the rest of her time the same way she always did whenever she visited her grandparents—

in the garden.

Every single morning after breakfast, her grandparents followed the exact same routine.

Her grandmother took care of the flowers.

Her grandfather handled the plants, shrubs, and small trees.

And together, they maintained one of the most beautiful gardens in the entire neighborhood.

Colorful flowers bloomed everywhere.

Roses.

Orchids.

Daisies.

Lavenders.

Even butterflies seemed to favor the place.

Honestly, the garden looked like something straight out of a painting.

Briar stepped outside and smiled warmly at the familiar sight.

Her grandmother was busy spraying insecticide carefully around the flower beds while her grandfather crouched nearby, trimming small bushes.

"Grandma, let me help you with that," Briar offered, reaching for the spray container.

Her grandmother immediately pulled it away protectively.

"Not without gloves and a mask first," she scolded gently. "This is insecticide, Briar. It's poisonous."

Briar grinned sheepishly.

"Yes, ma'am."

"There are gloves and masks inside the garden shelter," her grandmother instructed. "The masks are inside the plastic zip-lock box."

"Got it."

Briar headed toward the small wooden shelter near the back garden.

After finding the box, she pulled out a disposable mask and secured it properly over her nose and mouth before putting on gardening gloves.

Once ready, she returned to her grandmother and accepted the spray carefully.

"Good girl," her grandmother praised.

Briar laughed softly.

Even at twenty-eight years old, her grandmother still spoke to her as if she were ten.

And honestly...

She loved it.

The morning passed peacefully.

While her grandmother focused on protecting the flowers from pests, Briar carefully sprayed around the garden beds.

Nearby, her grandfather planted several new flowering plants while occasionally giving unnecessary gardening advice to everyone.

The peaceful atmosphere relaxed Briar completely.

Moments like this were rare in her life now.

In Switzerland, her days were almost always hectic.

Meetings.

Calls.

Clients.

Schedules.

Deadlines.

Sometimes she barely even noticed how exhausted she was until she finally stopped moving.

That was why this vacation meant so much to her.
