Matheus

Matheus Carvalho was never supposed to be here tonight.

According to the housekeeping agency, the vacation house would be ready tomorrow afternoon. Normally, he would have waited. Shine Bright Housekeeping had been handling his properties for years, and he trusted them enough to even give them spare keys to several of his residences.

But today had been unusually satisfying.

After weeks of negotiations, meetings, and endless paperwork, he had finally closed the acquisition deal for the company he had been pursuing for months. It was exhausting, but worth every sleepless night.

And after every major victory, there was only one place he wanted to be.

Santa Catarina.

His private country estate overlooking the ocean.

Far from the noise of Rio.

Far from businessmen trying to impress him.

Far from cameras, interviews, and meaningless social gatherings.

This place gave him silence.

Peace.

Breathing space.

So instead of returning to his penthouse in Rio de Janeiro, he boarded his private helicopter immediately after the meeting and instructed his pilot to take him straight to Santa Catarina.

Whether the house was fully cleaned or not didn't matter anymore.

Three days were more than enough for the staff to finish at least the important areas of the house.

The helicopter landed smoothly on the helipad several meters away from the private road leading to the estate. The loud whirring sound slowly faded as the blades stopped spinning.

Matheus stepped down from the helicopter, removing his sunglasses as the cool ocean breeze greeted him.

Finally.

Home.

He told the pilot to return to Rio and not wait for him. He had no plans of leaving anytime soon.

With his satchel hanging over one shoulder, he started walking toward the house.

That was when he noticed it.

A small red car was parked near the side of the road.

His brows furrowed slightly.

He didn't recognize the vehicle.

The security staff would have informed him if someone unauthorized entered the property, so it could only have belonged to the housekeeper from Shine Bright.

Still, something about it felt strange.

Most of the employees sent by the agency usually arrived in service vehicles.

He continued walking toward the entrance and pressed the doorbell once.

No response.

He waited for several seconds, listening carefully, but the house remained quiet.

Maybe the housekeeper was upstairs.

Or wearing headphones.

Or asleep.

He sighed softly before reaching into his satchel to retrieve his key.

The moment he found it, he unlocked the door and pushed it open casually—
