Briar

Before returning to Switzerland, Matheus brought Briar back to Santa Catarina.

Back to the estate.

Back to the hilltop vacation house.

Back to the very place where everything began.

The moment the car stopped in front of the familiar house, Briar simply sat still for a few seconds and stared at it through the windshield.

This place.

A few months ago, she had entered this house pretending to be Aurora.

A housekeeper.

A substitute.

A woman only trying to help her aunt.

She never imagined that behind these doors, destiny had been waiting for her.

Beside her, Matheus gently took her hand.

"Are you okay, sweetheart?"

Briar smiled softly.

"Yes."

Her fingers unconsciously touched her still-flat stomach.

"I'm just remembering."

Matheus's eyes softened instantly.

Then he stepped out of the car and opened her door for her.

Always a gentleman.

Always hers.

When Briar stepped down, the warm Santa Catarina breeze touched her face, carrying the familiar scent of flowers, sea air, and freshly cut grass from the golf course below.

Everything looked the same.

And yet...

everything felt different.

Because she was different now.

She was no longer the accidental maid who had walked into this house exhausted and nervous.

She was Matheus's wife.

Mrs. Carvalho.

And inside her was their tiny future.

Together, they walked toward the front door.

Matheus unlocked it and pushed it open.

The moment Briar stepped inside, memories rushed through her heart.

The living room.

The couch.

The hallway.

The door.

That door.

She stopped walking and stared at it.

Matheus followed her gaze.

Then slowly, his lips curved into a teasing smile.

"Ah."

Briar immediately narrowed her eyes at him.

"Don't start."

"That door changed my life."

"That door almost destroyed my backside."

Matheus burst into laughter.

Briar tried to glare at him but failed because she started laughing too.

Good Lord.

Even now, she could still remember the pain.

The embarrassment.
