They finally arrived at her parents' house just before sunset.
The elegant Swiss-style home stood peacefully at the end of a quiet street surrounded by tall pine trees and colorful flower beds.
Warm.
Welcoming.
Very much like Briar herself.
The moment the taxi stopped in front of the house, Matheus suddenly felt nervous again.
Ridiculously nervous.
Which honestly made no sense.
He had spoken in front of investors, politicians, and powerful businessmen before without fear.
But meeting the parents of the woman he loved?
That somehow terrified him more.
Beside him, Briar softly squeezed his hand.
"You'll survive," she whispered teasingly.
Matheus looked at her dramatically.
"I'm not convinced."
That made her laugh softly.
And honestly?
Hearing her laugh calmed him immediately.
Briar pressed the doorbell.
Several seconds later, the front door opened.
A handsome older man stood there smiling warmly the moment he saw Briar.
"Hello, Daddy!" Briar greeted happily before kissing his cheek affectionately.
Matheus immediately noticed where Briar inherited her warmth from.
Her father looked kind.
Gentle.
Protective.
Then Briar turned toward him.
"Daddy, this is Matheus..."
She smiled softly afterward.
"My fiancé."
Her father's eyes widened instantly.
Actually—
the man looked completely stunned for one whole second.
Matheus immediately extended his hand respectfully.
"Good evening, Sir."
Thankfully, Briar's father recovered quickly before shaking his hand warmly.
"Welcome, son."
That single word somehow touched Matheus deeply.
"Thank you, sir."
"Not sir," the older man corrected kindly. "Call me Daddy too."
Matheus blinked briefly.
Then smiled genuinely.
"Yes, Daddy."
The older man immediately looked pleased afterward.
"Come inside, both of you," he invited warmly. "I'll call Briar's mother. She's upstairs."
They followed him into the beautiful home.
The place felt peaceful.
Comfortable.
Filled with framed family photographs and soft warm lighting.
And honestly?
Matheus could immediately imagine Briar growing up in a home filled with love.
