"Wait- it...it was a joke! I was just kidding..." You trailed off, shocked.
"I wasn't joking!" Hanji steadied herself, and put her hands on the rope. "Somebody make him open his mouth!"
You turned away from the scene, gagging. "Can I- can I leave now?" About to turn around, you spun yourself back again when you heard a wretched sound.
Turning around, you were shocked when you saw tears streaming down her face. "H-Hanji?!"
She stared straight at the Titan, a hand covering her mouth. "I'm sorry!" She screamed. "I'm sorry, Bean Junior-"
The Titan seemed to eye her hungrily.
Dropping the large piece of inedible meat, you ran to Hanji, and shoved her back. She nearly missed the Titan's large mouth. With short breaths, you tried to regain your posture.
"What are you thinking?!" You demanded, staring at her. "That's dangerous-"
Hanji's silence nerved you. Standing up, you looked away. "I'm leaving. Please be careful in the future."
___
"Did I mention you look like shit?"
"Did I ask for your opinion?" You growled, taking a seat. "I didn't come here to ask about how I looked."
He tilted his head. "Ha?"
"What's happening in the Utopia District?" You felt a knot tie in your stomach.
"Utopia District?" Jean repeated, tiredly. "Not sure. There's been a break-out. Something about a murderer escaping." He shrugged, as if he didn't really care.
You figured he didn't. "A murderer? Name? Face? Should I look out for him?" With every question, you leaned a bit closer.
Jean turned pink, and turned away. "A murderer. His name is Karne- wait, why should I tell you this stuff?!"
"My father lives in Utopia District!"
"Oh. Then, he has light hair and blue eyes. A typical foreigner. Um, I don't think you need to look out for him. We've got a few people watching over, already."
"Karne?" You repeated. "Isn't that the Spanish word for meat?"
Jean gave you a strange look. "Is it? I wouldn't know."
"Of course you wouldn't," you half-heartedly teased him.
You hadn't even noticed Hana approaching, until she had softly called your name.
"(Y/N)."
You hadn't spoken to Hana ever since that jail incident. Things were as awkward as ever.
"Did you see Jin? Do you remember him, now?"
Quickly turning to Jean, you excused yourself. Leading Hana to the faraway table, you lowered your voice. "What can you tell me about Jin, Hana?"
She looked hurt. "I really- you...you're a horrible, blunt idiot."
"M-me? What do you even mean- nevermind that. Give me something to try and remember!"
Hana hesitated. "I wasn't able to tell you before, but Jin was someone special to you."
You nervously shifted in your seat, afraid of what you couldn't remember.
"Because Jin was your absolute favorite person in the world."
"My favorite...?"
"Jin was your favorite person in the world." Hana said again, with seriousness. "Or is," she added.
"My favorite person..." You murmured, your eyes fluttering shut. Massaging your forehead with the tips of your fingers, you chewed your bottom lip.
Hana seemed angry for a second. "We always were together. Levi, Jin, you- and me. We were even in the same trainee group!"
'Levi, too? But...' You looked away.
"Why don't you remember? We had so much fun together! Did it mean nothing to you?!"
"N-no, that's not it at all!" You quietly said, hurriedly.
"We were all there when you got knocked off that Titan. Jin took care of you, after you had fallen." Her face was hidden from the sunlight.
"Jin took me in...?"
"I'm pretty sure that's all I can say for now." She smiled- it was a somewhat lonely expression. "I'm sure you'll be able to remember, soon."
And before you could even thank her, she turned and wheeled herself away.
It wasn't long until you had gotten up to leave, too. But different thought pounded your mind.
'Lev knew?'
'But he said...'
___
"Lev! Are you in there?" You pounded on his door, boldly.
"Shut up, you noisy brat."
The door clicked open, and you stepped inside- breathing in relief. Levi sat at his desk, reviewing his documents.
"You're a liar."
Levi quickly turned to give you a questioning look. "What do you mean?" He asked, in a normal voice.
"You lied about that time," your voice was low, "why did you lie?"
"What is this about," he sighed. "Is it about Jin?"
"You knew! You knew all along- and you kept it from me!"
His cool gaze made you even more angry. "So what?"
"Why would you lie? And about something like that?"
The room's temperature seemed to be steadily dropping. Goosebumps rose on both of your arms, as you steadily looked at him.
"I didn't think it was important," he turned back.
"I lost a piece of my memory, and you were alright if it was that way, huh?"
"It wasn't like that."
The silence in the room was tense and delicate. You broke it, and spoke up slowly.
"Then what was it like?"
Levi held up a paper to the lamp so he could inspect it closer. "It's complicated."
