The days flew away as fast as the dry wind blew here, in Utopia. It had been at least five days since you've last spoken to Aileen before she left.
Coughing alerted you as you looked down besides you, your weakening father laying by your side. A wavering hand wobbled in the air. "You are mad, are you not?"
You swallowed your desires, pushing them away for the moment. "I am not."
"That is a lie," he said as he chuckled just a bit.
"Dad-"
"I do know what you have told her. Aileen is on her way back, isn't she? Perhaps with that captain of yours."
You silently looked down at your hands, uneasy.
"I had spoken with the boy you brought. Was his name Eren?"
"Yes."
"He's a spirited one. You can tell he really admires that group. But he was so nervous while speaking to me, he almost knocked over the jug of water." Your dad began to laugh, again.
Once more, the room was filled with his lively voice as if nothing was wrong. It was like he wasn't going to die soon. It seemed like everything was just how it was- months ago.
Your smile wavered, and suddenly you couldn't see clearly anymore. Ducking your head down, you tried to discretely wipe the tears away.
If your father had seen anything, he didn't speak about it. He continued, "he spoke of Levi. High praise, insults...even about this one time he seemingly kicked him in the face?"
Silence came from you.
He frowned, worryingly. "I don't want you to be with someone who is violent like him. Don't you just think that someone like Jin- gentle, kind...is better?"
"He's not violent when it comes to me."
"Who knows when he will be?"
"No, Levi would never-"
"(Y/N)."
Aileen's breathless expression and rosy cheeks gave away her exhaustion. "I need to talk to you for a bit, come out."
You rose, almost tripping yourself on the way out the door. Jogging into the kitchen to follow Aileen, she put her finger to her lips.
"He said he will come."
"Really? Are you sure? Surely, you must be joking!"
She shook her head, grinning, "I'm not!"
Your hands shook with excitement. "Did he say when? I can't wait to see him. I'm so happy, thank you-!"
"He said as soon as he can. The most would be a month. There's much paperwork for him to finish before he can leave, but he said he would leave as soon as he could."
You clasped your hands together, eagerly. "What else? What else did he say?"
"I asked for you, although you didn't ask me to relay to him, when he said he'd give you a month; he only said it so you would feel urged to contact him."
"He said what? That bastard, I swear, that sadist-! All he wants to do is to torture me like this! Oh, when I get my hands on him..."
"Anyway; that is all that I have to report." Aileen grinned, charismatically. "I hope he comes soon."
"Thank you so much, I'll go tell Eren! I love you, Aileen!"
You ran down the hall, missing Aileen's expression that appeared once you turned away.
She sighed.

Everyday was like a year. The hours passed by so quickly, you would often wait for Levi by the table near the door.
Even Eren found things to keep him occupied. He ran laps with Jin to train him, he studied medicine with Jin, sometimes went racing with Aileen.
But there were things that you just couldn't focus on.
Papa wasn't getting better, but he wasn't getting worse either.
He stayed at the same condition everyday; Jin's work tugged at your heart strings.
'Jin is not wasting time.' You would repeat to yourself.
