C. 37 | Connoisseur

Groaning, you sat up from the warm chair.

You rubbed your eyes, and squinted. "Levi?"

In the corner, Levi was making his bed. "You're up." He turned.

"Hey." You grinned, stretching. "I finished the documents, didn't I?"

Levi folded his arms across his chest. "You drooled over them, too."

"Have you heard about what's happening at the Utopia District?"

"What? That cold place?"

"Yeah, I heard that there was a murderer escapee from the jails."

"What!? No way!"

"Yeah, I know!"

Your eyes narrowed, as you couldn't help but overhear a group's conversation.

Taking a seat next to Hanji, you almost shrieked when she gave a yell.

"Woo-hoo! You have been selected to be the next participant of my experiment!"

"W-what?!" You nervously held up your bread.

She punched her fists high up in the air. "My team has captured me a Titan!"

'Poor Titan...' You sympathized.

"I was actually going to-"

"It's going to be so great!" She grinned. "Today we are going to finally get to test it's limits."

"But...Hanji-"

"Drop everything, (Y/N)!! This is a moment to remember!" She finished up her meal, and jumped up.

"I'm going to go check up on them." She beamed. "You hurry up!"

Giving a reluctant look at your food, you sighed.

"I'm coming..."

"Lord...you look like shit."

You didn't even look up from your miserable excuse of a breakfast.

"Shut it, Jean."

You grabbed your bread, and hurried up from your seat.

"I was just stating..." Jean muttered from behind.

Walking around, you sighed. 'I know I told Hanji I would be going, but...'

'Where the hell does she even do her experiments!? This place is too big!'

Mentally complaining, you tried to listen for screams, voices, and other signs of a Titan.

"Um..." You bumped into a stranger. "Excuse me, do you know where Hanji works her experiments?"

Their eyes widened as they pointed a shaking finger in the direction they had came from.

"Thanks!" You gave them a smile and ran off.

You could've sworn your heart stopped when you heard a yell: "Captain!!"

Sprinting, you kicked open the door, and stood in a defensive stance.

You almost toppled when you saw Hanji standing a few feet away from a small Titan.

"Hanji!" You rushed to her, and pulled her back. "What are you doing?! Are you trying to die!?" She pushed her glasses up.

Her eyes gleamed.

She had an aura of an evil scientist. She threw her head back and laughed. "I'm just testing Bean Number Two!" You looked at her in horror.

"You named the beast?"

She lovingly gave him a look. "Can't just call him Titan forever!" You sighed at this. "So what's the experiment?"

Hanji took a step back, her eyes seemed to cloud over. "First, we'll test him on various things. Then, we'll-"

You held up a hand. "Wait. How are you planning to test these things?"

Her eyes gleamed. "Well that's why you're here, isn't it?"

Gulping, you took a step back. "Hold on, Hanji- I-I agreed to help, but not like this! I'm not getting up and personal with a Titan!"

"I said participant, didn't I?" She gleefully looked at the Titan. "Hurry- I want to test out lots of things!"

Sighing, you took a step forward. "Just try to not kill me, and I'll willingly help." Hanji gave a loud whoop.

"You're going to be very useful, Bean Junior!" She happily complimented him- going as far as reaching out to pat him on the head.

Quickly, your hand shot out and grabbed her arm. "You're crazy," you said, looking into her eyes. "Can you at least be careful of what you're doing?"

She only gave you a carefree laugh. "Bean Number Two won't hurt me!"

You let go of her arm. "He will. Excluding Eren, they all hurt people. They're Titans, Hanji. Have you ever seen one calm and loving Titan? Have you ever seen a fluffy Titan?"

Continuing, you took a breath. "I haven't. That's because they don't exist."

She grinned. "No- he literally can't hurt me! He's under heavy ropes and guards."

"Just because he's under ropes doesn't mean-"

"Just come on!"

You took one look at the large, tied-down creature. It's large eyes stared straight at you, it's mouth wide open. Shuddering, you turned away. "Disgusting."

"When you said 'participate,' I thought you meant analyzing the data and shit," you muttered. Hanji, humming, happily, tried to lure Bean Junior's tongue out.

"We'll first try to cut off his tongue to test for pain. Then, we'll analyze everything." She stood up, a big piece of fresh meat in her hands.

You gulped. "I-is that..."

"Human flesh? No. It's some sort of wild animal. All I know is that we can't eat it. Hopefully, it's enough to make him at least try to get it."

She hauled the large piece of meat to you. "Now hoist it up a bit, so it's not dragging on the ground." Grunting, you held up the big piece of heavy meat.

"Come and get it, Bean Junior~!" Hanji sang, practically shivering in excitement. "Uh, Hanji-" You were cut off when the Titan lunged his head forwards- trying to reach the meat.

Yelping, you almost dropped it.

"I got it!"

You let out a sigh of relief. "You couldn't do this by yourself?" You scolded her. She sheepishly grinned. "No one is willing to, and I need to supervise."

"How are you going to get his tongue out?" You sighed and rolled your eyes. "I don't suppose you're going to pull it out..."

She clapped her hands. "Actually, that's exactly what we're going to do!"
