Chapter 3

Being in an asylum really helps you realize how shitty the world is. We stick the people with mental issues in a facility that hides them from the world and gives them very little social interaction. All that, because they're different. And everyone knows, most humans are too narrow minded to accept differences. I've only been here for 4 days, and I already know all of that.

Being in an asylum really puts things into perspective.

I've also learned that Mason was actually correct. These people are just like me. Well, some of them. I actually fit in with these people. I'm not an outcast. Nevermind, we're all outcasts. That's why we're stuck in a mental hospital. For standing out.

I made a few friends when I got here, which for me is a blessing. Layla Susanna Jennings, my roommate, is a certified psychopath. No, I'm kidding. She's a schizophrenic, which is sometimes pretty cool, and other times really scary. But she's normally one of the nicest people I've ever met. She LOVES people, but she hates lamps. Why does she hate lamps? I have no clue. All I know is that I'm not allowed to have a lamp in my room because of an incident that happened 2 years ago. It makes no sense to me, but there's no way that I'm asking her. She's very sensitive.

Joey Martinez is an OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) boy that lives across the hall. He's an amazing writer, and he's really passionate. I'm pretty sure that he has a thing with Layla, but I'm not sure. He's probably the most flirty person that I've ever met. I swear, he will flirt with anything with boobs. I think that's why everyone loves him. He's so likeable.

And lastly, Calliope (Cali) Arianna Haile. Cali is bulimic and suicidal. She's in the room next to me, and she has the most beautiful voice that I've ever heard. She sings to herself before she goes to sleep every night, and I can't help but listen. Her voice is like an angel's. It's so beautiful. We haven't spoken much, but I can tell that she is a very kind and caring person.

See, just because we have disorders, that doesn't mean that we're worthless. So do yourselves a favor, don't overlook us. We will surprise you. I can guarantee that.
