Cali's POV
"Hell no. I'm her sister, don't I have a say in what happens to her?? She can't go into fostercare." I argued with the policeman. There's no way I'm letting my little sister go into fostercare.
"No, you don't have a say. If you were 18 and... um... mentally stable... then you would be able to be her guardian. This isn't my choice Cali." He said, obviously getting annoyed, but I wasn't done yet.
"Well, can't you put her with one of our relatives?" I asked.
"We think it'll be best if she doesn't stay with her relatives. None of them are particularly mentally stable either." He answered.
Great. At least I'm not the only freak in my family.
"Is there anything I can do?? I don't want her to go into fostercare. What if they don't let me see her, like my mom did??" I said, trying not to cry. I had just gotten her back, I didn't want to lose her again.
He sighed, "We will make sure that both of you can visit each other."
"...So she can visit me at the asylum???" I asked, sounding hopeful.
"Yes."
"And you will make sure that she is completely safe in her foster home?"
He sighed again, "I will do everything in my power to make sure that she is safe. But we really need to get you back to the hospital, you're very late."
I sighed in return, "Okay. Can I say bye to her?"
"She's being interviewed. You probably shouldn't."
I nodded and climbed in the car. I'm not gonna cause anymore trouble than I already did.
I looked out the window and looked at all the trees, then the Policeman, Martin, looked at me and said, " It must be nice to get out of the asylum for a while. You were stuck in there for 2 years, right?"
"Yeah. Two years of shitty food and lots of perscriptions." I answered as i saw a gorgeous deer run across the street. I gasped, and flinched as it was hit by the car next to me.
"Welcome back to the real world." He said, glancing back and the corpse of the deer.
When i saw a small, scared fawn across the street, i got Martin to stop the car.
I approached it and it was shivering. It was so shocked that it couldn't even move. The poor thing bad just watched its mom get hit by a car.
It was worse than Bambi.
The fawn actually let me pick it up, and i was astonished. I've always been good with animals, but this was simply amazing. I took her to the car and i asked Martin, "What are we gonna do with her?"
He groaned, "Just put the deer back into the forest."
I sighed and glared at him, "She's a fawn. A baby deer. And i can't do that, she'll die. "
"Some things are supposed to die."
Really. Really Martin. You gotta say that to the suicidal, over emotional, freak?
"Well i agree with you there, but this poor, innocent fawn doesn't deserve to die all alone in the cold forest with no one to mourn her death. She deserves another shot at life. And if it wasn't for that idiotic driver, her mother would still be alive and she would have a family. The least we could do is take her to the shelter. Its a few blocks from the asylum." I said, stubbornly. There was no way i was leaving this animal to die.
He sighed, "Fine. Just make sure it doesn't make a mess in my car."
I climbed in happily with the fawn still in my arms, "She. Not it." And then I said "and her name is Stormy. So there."
"Why Stormy?" He asked.
"I don't know. I like it."
When we got to the shelter, Stormy was happily accepted and i could tell that she was safe. I hugged once more and headed back to the asylum.
When we arrived, Martin walked me in and then when he got into the lobby he said, "Well. It was good to meet you Cali, the fawn whisperer." I smiled at him. I kinda liked the nickname.
"Bye officer Martin."
I was escorted back to my room and they wouldn't let me say hi to Layla and Joey, so i was pretty pissed. I just wanted my friends to know that i was okay... stupid paranoid nurse.
When i got into my room, i yelled, "JOEY, LAYLA, I'M OKAY. THEY'RE BEING DICKS SO I CAN'T COME SAY HI TO YOU GUYS."
The nurses told me to be quiet, but then Joey yelled, "THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME, I WISH THAT THEY WEREN'T SUCH DICKS. I MEAN, I APPRECIATE A NICE DICK, BUT THEY DEFINITELY AREN'T NICE DICKS."
"OH MY FUCKING GOD JOEY." I yelled, trying to stop laughing. It wasn't working. I was laughing so hard that i was crying.
"SAME HERE. DEFINITELY NOT NICE DICKS." Layla answered. I was still laughing, and we were all yelled at by the nurses.
"NIGHT GUYS." I yelled.
"NIGHT CALI."
"NIGHT CAL."
I smiled and I laid down in bed, then I started quietly singing Addison's old favorite song, "Behind these Hazel eyes" by Kelly Clarkson. I have to admit, even though its pop, it's not that bad at all.
Halfway through the 2nd time singing the chorus. Joey yelled, "BITCH, ITS 2 IN THE FUCKING MORNING, THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO SING KELLY CLARKSON. " I heard all the nurses tell him to shut up, and I laughed and went to sleep.
