Orange is the new black "The new prisoner" (Book 1)

The first day

I woke up the sun was beaming through the rusty metal bars "Good morning" Piper said she was sat on her bunk reading a book "What's the time?" I asked "11:15am, for a new girl you sure are breaking the rules" Piper giggled "What did I do?" I questioned "All prisoners have to be awake by 9am, Mr Healy came but I told him you weren't feeling too good" she replied "Thanks" I replied. "Here's your toiletries time to hit the showers" Piper said before getting up. We walked for a while before coming across the showers "The first one is always the worst, once you get used to having open showers you'll be fine" Piper said "Hey new girl" Vause said whilst doing her eyeliner "Hey where did you get that?" I asked "I know people" she replied smugly before walking away, "Hey if you do my shift at the yard I'll get you some eyeliner" Piper said "Yeah sure" I replied.

Piper left and my first shower here was awkward there's mound everywhere and I'm pretty sure someone stole my towel,  I got ready and returned to my bunk but before I could sit down Piper took me to the yard where I had to do her shift for some makeup "Basically what you do is you dig the dirt and if you find anything valuable you hand it in" she said "Ok when do I stop?" I questioned "In 3 hours then Mr Healy wants to see you to give you your actual job" she replied before walking away. Surprisingly the 3 hours went really fast but I was exhausted straight after. I approached Mr Healy's office and went in "Ah Marshall I see your settling in fine, stick with Chapman and your sentence will go swimmingly" he said "Anyways I'm here to give you your job schedule for the first 6 months of your stay all prisoners have different jobs to do but switch every 6 months your first job is working in the kitchen, you will be the vegetable chef so basically all you do is chop vegetables fairly easy right? And you'll be working from 10am-3pm each day and you'll get about $10 a day" he said "Ok that's fine see you later" I said before leaving but secretly it wasn't fine I hate kitchens and the fact that dangerous prisoners are trusted with knives makes it even worse. I was on my way back to my bunk when someone touched my shoulder "Hey I'm Suzanne and might I say just how beautiful you look" she said whilst licking her lips "Umm thanks?" I replied before walking away.

I got back to my bunk when a siren went off and everyone dropped to the floor so my first instinct was to do the same a guard came round and went to a specific bunk wait that's Vause's bunk... He trashed the whole place until he found what he was looking for but it wasn't Vause's "Right Coplon your going down the hill" he said whilst grabbing a Middle aged woman and leading her away then we went back to our normal business "Hey what was that about?" I asked Piper whilst sitting down "That woman had illegal contraband in her bunk so they are sending her down the hill" she said "Down the hill?" I said confused and intrigued "It's solitary confinement stay away from there at all costs you get locked away and people don't see you for months" she said I sat shocked "Anyways you done my job so here's your eyeliner" she said and chucked it at me "If anyone asks you didn't get it from me" she said.

The days go really fast here I looked at the clock and it was 7pm my first dinner here, I walked to the kitchen and grabbed a tray it had food that smelt horrible but tasted pretty good, I sat with Piper and her friends they seem nice "So why are you here?" Nichols said "I assaulted someone and got charged with assault and GBH" I replied "Wow I would never imagine a girl like you doing stuff like that" she said shocked I just laughed. After dinner I made my first phone call to my mum "Mum it's me Faye" I said "Faye sweetheart how are you?" She replied "Surprisingly good I've made loads of friends ones that can protect me it's quite exciting here some woman got sent down the hill earlier" I said "Faye this isn't a vacation it's a serious issue, me and your brother are visiting you tomorrow what time suites you?" She asked "I'm working from 10am-3pm so about 4:30pm would be alright" I said "Ok sweetie I'll see you tomorrow stay strong love you" she said before hanging up hearing her voice bought a sense of comfort to me.....

I stumbled back to my bunk where everyone was getting ready to sleep out of the corner of my eye I could see someone staring at me, oh great it that's crazy woman I met earlier she blew me a kiss before lying down, I led down on my back and stared at the ceiling "Hey Marshall" someone whispered I looked and it was Nichols "Take this you can pay me later" she said and threw a chocolate bar at me, "I never knew they had this stuff here?" I said "Prison isn't doom and gloom we have a tuck shop in the corridor get your family to put money into your account by tomorrow there's gunna be a sale stock up on everything and you can resell it for a good price" she advised "Thanks I'll be sure to do that" I said before falling asleep.
