After we had endured the graduation party and had our roses handed to us, we left the school. I was wearing just a smart black button-up shirt, and Emilia just a casual dress.
"So how'd the date go?" She asked.
"Date?" I asked back.
"With Charlie", she replied. She was looking at her feet.
"Oh", I replied. "It was fun. We kissed".
"Nice", Emilia said monotonously.
"Are you gonna be okay?" I asked.
"Of course not", Emilia replied. "Not soon, at least".
"Well I'm here. And I'll be here for you when you're not ok, and I'll be here to make sure that you will be ok. Eventually", I said. Emilia pursed her lips a bit and leaned into me.
"You're a cool friend", she said. I put my arm around her, and she kind of let herself fall sideways into me. We hugged.
"I'm just doing what friends do", I replied.
