That morning, Grey had already gone and a small feeling in me sprang to life to check and see where he'd went.
I'll kill him myself if he left.
I jumped out of bed, not caring that I was only in his dress shirt- which I've seem to be taking a liking to lately- and running through the halls, down to his study.
"Grey!" I yelled, turning the corner.
All I seen was tanned, muscled skin standing from a chair and moving faster than the Kentucky Derby over to me.
"Pet, what is it?" His hands were around me before I could even speak.
"You- I, um.." I inspected his face, then around at the room, registering that he was here. He was safe.
"Are you okay? What's wrong?"
I walked away, taking a seat on the couch I'd known Kale to be sitting in.
"Nova?" He looked at me with an almost puzzled expression.
"I can't do this, Grey."
I would've laughed at the way he looked at me as if I'd grown a second head, but it obviously wasn't the appropriate time.
"I can't live like this. You'd want this for me? Always having to worry about you? If you'll go running off into your death?"
"The guilt trip, Nova? Nice." He rubbed both hands through his hair, sighing out deeply.
Still one of his cutest gestures.
I watched him walk over to take a seat behind his desk before answering him. "I'm not using the guilt trip on anyone. If you feel that way, that alone shows that you're guilty."
He shook his head at me and scoffed. "I'm not guilty of anything, pet. Just of wanting to protect you. I'm sorry this isn't some fantasy werewolf story you read about in those ridiculous novels."
"That's not what I'm asking for. Come to think of it, none of this is what I asked for."
His eyes reflected.
"You want to go there, Nova? Go on, run off. Break the bond, see what happens." He turned away from me, focusing on some documents in front of him.
I wanted to ask him where his glasses were, but again, wasn't the time. As well as what the hell he meant about breaking the bond.
"Grey.."
"I really don't want to hear it, pet. Not right now, not ever. If you're suggesting you want to leave, then go."
A pang hit my chest.
Before, I knew he said that he'd always come after me, but the tone of his voice left me questioning it now.
"I-" I tried again.
"Nova." His voice was sharp.
I could feel tears begin to form in my eyes and before I let them fall, I stormed out of his study. Not forgetting to slam the door on my way out.
I ended up going to the room to get dressed, after convincing myself into trying to steal one of his cars again.
This time I promised to be successful in the act.
Just when I reached the door, Lynn and Audri had walked up.
"Luna. I mean Nova, how's it going?" Audri corrected herself while greeted me. Lynn nodded her head with a grin, at least until she saw my face.
"Uh oh, we know that look." The girls looked at one another, then back at me. "That face has guy problems written all over it."
I opened my mouth to deny it, but felt a lump rise in my throat. I knew if I said anything about it right now, I would break down in tears.
They seemed to understand and Lynn came up to place a hand on my shoulder.
I'm glad she didn't hug me, I'm sure I would've cried then. Instead, I tried to pull myself together as much as possible and moved out of the way to let them in.
We made our way to the glass-walled room and they gave me a moment of silence, before I was able to talk about my problems without feeling like I was going to cry them a river.
I was thankful that Grey had introduced me to them and even more grateful that we immediately clicked, but I was mad that Grey had been the reason behind it.
I was mad at him for anything. No, I was mad at him for everything. All of it. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be upset about things that I shouldn't so-called be worrying my pretty little head about.
I'd talked to the girls for hours and again, they made me remember what it was like to have friends. Girls that you actually have things in common with.
Not those stuck up, I can't break a fingernail, type of skanks.
I missed it.
When night fell, I nor the girls wanted them to go. So for the first time in years, I decided a slumber party was much needed.
Minus the nail painting and pillow fighting.
We set up girl camp in the windowed room and locked the door in hopes to keep out the unwanted.. in other words, the Alpha himself.
Stupid wolf boy.
Surprisingly a few days breezed by.. Well, not exactly breezed. More like dragged excruciatingly because Grey and I had stubbornly been avoiding and ignoring one another.
I guess breeze would be an understatement of a word.
Lynn and Audri had stayed two nights and the third I ended up spending alone in the windowed room all in my lonesome.
Apparently Grey wasn't the only one who had to go off for pack business from time to time, though he seemed to always be more busy than them.
Speaking of exotic eyes..
I wrapped a small golden duvet around me and made my way from the room I'd been staying in to the kitchen, in secret hopes of running into my asshole of a mate.
I scoffed to myself.
Then almost slapped myself when I seen a head of ginger hair bobbing around in animated conversation as Grey walked around the kitchen.
"The security cameras caught most of it. The rest was cut short."
"Because of the explosives? It fucked up the rest of what the cameras captured?"
"Yes, Alpha."
I heard someone sniff the air, then I could hear Ginger Lewinsky turn in her seat.
"If you're going to spy, at least be good at it."
I made a face at her as I approached the bar, taking a seat in the other stool. I looked up at Grey briefly, but when he didn't acknowledge me, I scowled and looked away.
"Ah, trouble in paradise I see." Her tone was sarcastic and amused.
"You're out of line." I snapped, seeing as to Grey wasn't going to put the devil in it's place.
"I'm only calling it how I see it."
"Call the ambulance next, cause that's who you'll be needing pretty soon."
"Oh yeah, mutt? You think you can take me? I'd like to see you try." She stood up from her seat and I wasted no time in doing the same and dropping the duvet from my shoulders.
"Mutt me one more time Monica Lewinsky and you'll need a new face."
"That's right, I forgot you preferred your proper name.."
I narrowed my eyes at her.
Say it bitch, I dare you.
"Pet."
Blood shot out of her nose immediately after my right hook clipped her in it.
Now that shot was a breeze. She couldn't fight worth a damn. I could tell already, at least she didn't stand a chance against me that is.
Then all I felt was large arms around my body, picking me up, and carrying me away as I shouted my lovely insults all the way down the hall.
