Grey's POV
I waited in my office for Nova to come flying back in, but to my surprise, she didn't.
When it began to get late, I sent Caustine off to a vacant room and wandered the halls in search of Nova.
Even more to my surprise, I found our bedroom door open, a small lamp on, and Nova on her knees in the midst of the mess still spread about.
"Pet?"
I could see her body tense up, even in the dim lighting. Something was off, I could feel it in the air, I could feel it in her.
"What is it?" I stepped cautiously towards her.
She still hadn't turned to face me.
"You-you knew.."
I didn't understand, growing irritated that her riddled talk reminded me of the blue eyed boy that's been trespassing on my territory.
"What are you talking about? I knew what?" I was just as confused as I had been all day. Nothing new.
"About my mom."
And now I went from confused to fucked.
Just like that.
Less than two seconds flat.
"I didn't know that she was a royal, let alone married to Prince Montreal."
"But you knew she was still alive."
"Pet-"
"Don't pet me. You knew she was alive, didn't you?!" Her fiery, deep blue eyes found mine and bore holes through me.
"Nova, I-"
"You. Knew."
"Please, please just-"
"Please, what? Try to understand how you've been lying to me this whole time?!" She was standing, both fists clenched to her sides, though she still wouldn't look at me.
"How did you-"
No, wrong thing to ask. She'd think-
"How did I find out? That's all you'd care about, huh?"
Merde.
"It's not like that." I tried to approach her, but she turned to face me so quickly, all I could do was stop dead in my tracks.
"Don't. You. Dare. Come near me. Don't touch me, don't call me pet, don't tell me you're sorry, don't talk to me if all its going to be is lies!" She choked back a sob.
Finally meeting my eyes, I could see just how watery, red and swollen her eyes were from crying. She wasn't herself. She was falling apart and right now, I was a big part of why that was happening.
I dropped to my knees, feeling my heart grow heavier and heavier, weighing my body to the floor.
"Nova, I'm.."
Don't tell me you're sorry.
Each one of her words were like a punch to the gut, winding me and leaving me nearly breathless. It was her. I could feel her despair, her feeling of.. betrayal.
"Everything I do.. is to protect you."
"How is keeping the fact that my mom's alive protecting me, Greyden? How?!"
She launched herself at me, her right fist connecting with the left side of my face.
I allowed the first hit, knowing I'd deserved at least that, but caught her wrists not wanting her to get carried away.
