It was late when we showered and I realized I had not a thing to dress in.
"Where's my stuff?" I looked at Grey with a hand on my hip.
"Packed. We're leaving for a hotel tonight and will arrive at Auguste's by morning."
"First thing?"
"First thing, sweetheart." He placed a swift kiss to my brow.
"You could've left me out something to wear."
"You blame me.. I blame the help." He rolled his beautiful, pale brown eyes. "No one will win."
"We will." I wrapped my arms around his neck, loving the support of his broad shoulders under them. My fingers ruffled through the back of his hair.
His strong arms found their way around my waist, one hand gripping my behind and the other holding my back, keeping me close to him.
"Yes, pet." He kissed my lips this time. Soft and slow, before pulling away. "We will."

I thought for some stupid reason that we would lay low at some shabby, in-the-cut type of motel, but Grey always had a way of proving me wrong.
Always full of surprises.
He held my hand rather tightly, leading me through an enormous hotel, which I'm sure even the most basic of rooms were extremely expensive.
Who knew something like this was here in Connecticut, let alone anywhere remotely close to where dad lives?
"You've been here before?" I asked, though the answer was obvious as he weaved his way around.
"I come here often."
Oh, you do?
I felt his grip tighten on mine. I swatted him with my other hand, indicating to him he'd better cut his shit or I'd make a scene.
"Nova, I come on business." He stopped to turn to me. "This is how I was able to get to you so quickly that night in the woods. I told you, I was in the area."
That's right.
"And I told you, I acquired new territory. Did I not? I held a business meeting here. I always do. I hold all my gatherings here, if not at the packhouse."
"I'm sorry."
"We just don't have time for this." He was back leading us to our room, my hand bittersweetly in his grasp.
"Audri and Lynn will accommodate you in our room for the time being."
I stopped in front of the door, not allowing him to open it. "You, Kale? The others that came with us?" I cringed for not having the time to have learned their names.
"We'll be close. And I'll be back soon."
"You're doing it again, Grey." My eyes glared over.
"Please, please just let me make sure the hotel is safe for you."
"That's what you're doing?"
He straightened out, a curious look on his face. "Isn't it what I'm always doing? Making sure everything around us is safe."
I sighed, "It feels so much more better when you tell me things."
His head tilted slightly.
"I'm not a puzzle to figure out, wolf boy. So stop looking at me like I'm one."
