"Nova?"

All I could do was stare at the tall, hazel eyed, light brown hair man I called.. "Dad?"

"Merde, Princess." He dropped whatever files he had in his hands and stepped out of the doorway to hug me. "Where the hell have you been?"

I hugged him back, surprised he wasn't kicking me off his doorstep.

"We need to talk, Dad."

"You're damn right we do. Were have you been? Why haven't you called?"

That's more like it. There's Ausguste.

"Come inside."

"You were just leaving for work?"

"I took leave."

"Why?" I closed the door behind us after picking up his papers and followed him into the living room.

I missed this house, I couldn't lie about that.

It was comforting, familiar.. it was home. I was itching to sprint up to my bedroom like I always did after coming back from the meadow my mother and I'd found.

I wanted to slam my door and throw myself on my bed and scribble in my hummingbird journal that my mother had bought me a long time ago.

To sit and stare at those four blank walls after getting yelled at by my dad for staying out so late again, because they were my four walls.

But I couldn't.

I have to stick to the plan.

"Why haven't you called? I've left probably a million messages, but you're phones been dead for days."

Come to think of it, I had no idea where my phone is.

"Where were you going? What's this?" I asked, handing his papers back to him.

"I-uh, this is some paperwork I had to look at from the office. I was going to get it copied."

"We have a copier here."

"It's broken."

And you're lying to me, why?

"Are you hurt? What made you come back? Where have you been? I mean, are you okay? Have you eaten?"

Was it wrong that the first thing to come to mind was Grey's amazing Hawaiian pizzas?

..no, I didn't think so either.

"I'm not hungry, Dad."

"That's it, Nova Royale? You're not hungry. That's it?"

"I didn't come back to fight, Dad."

"Then what did you come back for?" His tone held anger, but his hazel eyes held a very different emotion.

Sadness, maybe. Relief?

I don't know.

"That's.. It's kind of hard to explain."

"Everything is hard to explain when it comes to you, Nova."

Okay, well thanks, Dad.

I smirked.

"Take a walk with me?"

"Here should be fine." He leaned back into the couch.

"Please, Dad. It helps me.. think. Gather my thoughts, you know?" My palms started to sweat.

I knew I was lying to him. And it definitely wasn't like any other white lie I told my old man, this was a a truthful lie and one with ulterior motives.
