When I first saw this, I wasn't sure what to think. I haven't seen the Lorax yet, and I don't remember Penny in Bolt very well, so I didn't get their connection. But then Maria explained it in her Top 20 OTPs list, and I got a better view of it. I don't actually ship it, since I don't know Ted very well and I don't really care for Penny, but I can see the attraction.
For one thing, Ted would work better with someone his age since he has no indication of being too mature like in Hiro's case. And for another, Penny has several similar traits to the ones Audrey has. She's sensitive, subdued, calm, and passionate, so Ted could get into her. There's also the fact that Ted is a great listener and he'd be able to listen to Penny, someone who definitely needs to be heard since she's constantly pushed around by her agent. I really enjoy ships that have one person listen to the other when they most need it. One of my major NOTPs, not from this fandom, is a ship that is an exact opposite of this, where the guy who actually has and needs more listening and care than Penny does, is implied to be paired up with this guy who refuses to listen to him and passes him off as an angsty teenager. I find this attitude so fucking disgusting and I think there should be more ships like these, that encourage lovers to LISTEN to each other, especially to those who really need it.
So yeah, overall, I'm pretty neutral, but I can also see that this ship does have potential to be something cute and great, just not with the characters I'm interested to see it with.
