Carmen's Pov.

"I have a problem!" Were the first words I heard as soon as I opened the front door. I closed the door and giggled at Julie's tone. The grocery bags were cutting off circulation in my hands and I was dying to put them down.

"What's up, J?" I asked and kicked the door shut. She rounded the corner and I handed her the some of the bags. We walked to the kitchen and dropped the bags on the table.

"Well, I have this friend who has this birthday coming up and I have zero idea what to get them because she or he won't tell me what the hell they want." Julie said in one breath and narrowed her eyes at me. I laughed at the look on her face and rolled my eyes. This girl and the dramatics.

"Well," I began unpacking the groceries, "How about you surprise him or her, I'm sure you know them well enough to do that."

Julie let out a dramatic wail and plopped down on the bar stool. She dropped her head down on her arms and groaned. I removed the bread from the Publix bag and smacked the back of her head with it.

"Stop being dramatic," I laughed and she moaned once again. "You'll be fine."

"Yeah, whatever." She murmured into her arm and then said something that sounded a lot like 'I'm going to choke you in your sleep'.

"Stop being a baby and help me put away these groceries." I told her and she sighed. She got up and grabbed the closest bag to her.

The next few minutes were spent putting away groceries and Julie trying to get me to tell her what I wanted for my birthday. It's not that I was being difficult, It's just that every time someone asked me what I want for my birthday or Christmas or anything along those lines, my mind goes blank and I can't think of anything. Nothing really pops up and makes an impression.

"I'm going to throw you a party, by the way." Julie said, pulling me out of my thought. I put the gallon of milk in the fridge and threw the bag away.

"I don't know, J." I scrunched up my nose. Honestly, I'm not too into parties. The last party I went to I got drunk and shit hit the fan faster than I could blink.

"Oh, come on." Julie said, leaning against the counter. "You've never had an actual birthday party before. I can make your birthday memorable, sweetheart."

"You sound confident." I pointed out the obvious and she flipped her hair over her shoulder.

We stayed in the kitchen for a few more minutes before she had to get to class. I told her about Harry which turned out to be a huge mistake.

"Did you guys have sex?!" Julie practically shouted, eyes wide and hands flat on the table. My face turned bright red and I wished I wore my hair down today.

"No-"

"Bullshit!" Julie cut me off and scooted closer to me. She put her hand on my arm and shook. "You're face is redder than the devil and his fiery pits in hell!"

"Oh my lord." I put my hands on my face, covering my embarrassed expression. "We didn't have sex, Julie, but we...we almost did."

"I knew it, I knew it!" Julie ripped my hands away from my face, laughing. "Tell me about it, what happened? How? What do you mean by almost?"
