Why. Why her? That's all Akaashi could think about. Why now? Why not him? The two of them had been dating for so long, and now all the time the they had spent together was left alone in the dust.

With his fingers tightly gripped around the wood of the little desk in front of him, he fought his tears as he eyed the many people seated across from where he stood.

The crowd fell silent as they stared back at him, eyes filled with grief and sorrow. They felt just as terrible about this entire situation as he did, but he mentally told them off. He was the one on the stage, after all.

He cleared his throat nervously as he looked at the notes in front of him, before starting the pained speech he had been dreading to give.

"I want to thank you all for coming," He started, already realizing how heartbroken he sounded. "We're all gathered here today to mourn over the death of {L/N} {F/N}, beloved daughter, sister, girlfriend and friend of all. It has been a week since we had to say goodbye to her, and I know this affected all of us deeply."

A saddened smile made its way onto his lips as he slowly locked gazes with all of the people present, "{F/N} was everything you could have dreamed off. She was a smart girl and a wonderful student, a kind and polite human being and the perfect daughter. She treated everybody equally and even treated those who treated her poorly with respect, but wasn't afraid to put them in their places either. She was a beautiful young girl, and I was the one lucky enough to have her."

His voice cracked a little and made him wipe away some tears, before pushing himself to continue. "{F/N} and I had been dating for four years and were in the midst of discussing whether or not we should move in together. She had it all; that bright smile of hers, the sparkle in her eyes whenever she was excited, the way her nose would twitch when she was annoyed... She was the most wonderful person in my life."

He fiddled with the pieces of paper in front of him but pushed them aside, giving up on them and looking at the coffin next to him. "So when I heard that some idiotic drunk had driven his car into hers, I was extremely shocked. Because, my {F/N} was always so cautious, they must have mistaken her for someone else, right? I thought it was possible. That maybe, maybe they had made a mistake, and that the girl I loved was fine and undamaged. But then came the pictures of her car, her belongings, the faint figure of her body... And at that point, I'm sure everybody's world collapsed."

Some of the people in the audience had started to tear up themselves and {F/N}'s mom was crying loudly as well.

"Every day that passes becomes harder for me. The weary smiles I'd get whenever I would stay at her house, the way she laughed whenever she told a joke or even the way her lip trembled whenever she was about to cry... All of those are just distinct memories now that I will hold dear to me forever."

Oh, did he miss her so much.

"Some people say you only realize how much you cared about something when it's gone. But for me, and for many others, it's even worse than that. We cherished the moments we got to spend with her, and we would never understand why something like this would happen to her, out of all people. Until now I still wonder, would it have been different if I would've picked her up? Would it have been different if I had done something that delayed her leave? It's the first thought I wake up with, and the last thing I think about when I go to sleep. We are all looking for a way to blame ourselves for what happened to her, so that we would feel how much her presence meant to us and that we would not forget that she used to live with us. Breathe the same air, watch the same stars, live by the same light of the sun. I think it's safe to say that she was very important to us,"

He started to conclude, looking at the desk a final time before finishing up. "And that we will do everything to allow her to rest in the peace she deserves. I want to thank you for your attention, and for being a friend or family to {F/N}. I am sure she would be happy, knowing that so many people cared about her."

He grabbed his notes and took a step away from the microphone, walking back to where he was seated earlier and hiding his eyes with his sleeve. He wondered it all over again; was it his fault she was gone? Could he have prevented it? Was there a way he could have protected her better?

He felt a familiar hand on his shoulder and turned his head to see who it was, but there was no one there to comfort him.

He blamed it on being desperate; desperate to see her one last time and hear her laugh or witness that smile of hers a final time so he could say a proper goodbye. He just hoped all of this was a messed up dream, or a stupid prank she pulled on him to give him a heart attack.

But none of it came.

He missed her deeply, and every chance he would get to go back in time and stop her, was one he would take without hesitating.

I hate my life so much right now, haha xD This was so painful to write, you have no idea. I'm grateful for not having to be on a podium like that myself, but in two years worth of time I've lost a lot of people I care about myself. Hope it was good and I hope it brought some feels along Y-Y
