Ennoshita always admired {F/N}. She was determined, strong, smart – not to forget about beautiful.
That's why, when she first asked him to have lunch together, he was surprised. Surprised that a lovely girl like her would want to eat with someone like him.
He went in on her invite and the two had the time of their lives, eventually leading them to more and more dates together.
He loved seeing her smile when he did something stupid, hearing her laugh when he cracked a joke and the way she puffed her cheeks when she didn't get what she wanted. He adored every part of her, and he came to love her oh so deeply.
Time went well for the two – after a few months of dates he finally made it official by asking her to be his girlfriend on a beach date. The girl was more than happy to say yes, and both of them spent the rest of the day with goofy grins on their faces.
A few weeks later, Ennoshita introduced {F/N} to his parents. Both of them were also very fond of the girl, and were more than happy to welcome her into their family.
Of course, {F/N} and Ennoshita got into arguments sometimes, but like any other couple, they got used to it. They fixed things with each other the same day, and apologized by cuddling up and watching a movie.
After a while of being together, the two were practically inseparable. {F/N} showed up for every volleyball match he played and Ennoshita would always be there for her {Sport} competitions, cheering her on like only the two of them existed.
Everyone that was asked about one of them would instantly mention the other, and the two were sure they were meant to be.
That's why Ennoshita was at a loss for words when he suddenly got a call that {F/N} was taken into the hospital, leaving him completely devastated. The doctor stated that {F/N} wasn't going to hold out much longer, and that if there was anything he needed to tell her, he'd have roughly two months to do so.
Ennoshita was broken by the thought of living without the girl now that they had built such a relationship, but he knew he had to stay strong for {F/N}. She was already hurting, but she would only hurt more if she figured out he was hurting.
Of course, {F/N} already knew this – she knew exactly when he was sad, and she would always do her best to cheer him up. But this time, even though she wanted to, she knew she was too weak to help him. And knowing he was hurting without her being able to help, hurt her even more.
Ennoshita spent all the time he could in the hospital by her bed, bringing her a flower and something sweet to eat every day. He knew how much she liked sweets, and instead of bringing her a bouquet of flowers, bringing her a different one every day seemed more rewarding.
Even though she wasn't able to confront him about it, {F/N} knew her boyfriend wasn't handling this well. There were massive circles underneath his eyes, he had been losing weight, and his memory seemed to be decreasing a little.
Every night that he was home, he'd cry – pray for her survival; pray for a miracle to happen. He didn't want to let go of his {F/N}, the one girl he had grown attached to.
About a month passed, and {F/N}'s condition seemingly became worse. She began to eat less, she needed more medicine and her hydration was at a minimum.
His hope for her survival faltered, and even he couldn't control how he felt anymore. He had a total breakdown right next to her bed when she was asleep, and when the doctor came in to tell him he had to go, he could barely get himself out of the room.
His heart was aching, his throat was burning and his head hurt like crazy – he had been keeping himself awake at night so he wouldn't miss any phone calls.
Another three weeks passed, and somewhere in the middle of his volleyball practice, his phone rang. He excused himself to answer it and felt his heart drop at the mention that {F/N} had at most half an hour to live, and that he needed to be there for her final moments.
Ukai was very understanding and allowed him to skip practice for a few days, to get things settled and to get him over it.
When he arrived at the hospital, she showed him a weakened smile and reached for his hand, trying not to look at the tears spilling from his eyes.
"I love you," She said, "Don't you ever forget that."
Her voice became weaker the more she spoke, and she let out a few tears of her own before slowly shutting her eyes.
Ennoshita could feel her grip and pulse weaken and couldn't keep himself collected, kissing her hand endlessly as a way of saying he loved her too.
Later on, he and {F/N}'s parents arranged her funeral, all of them dropping in a few nice words about {F/N} when they could.
After her body was lowered into the ground, Ennoshita made it his task to visit her every day. Her parents would come in the morning to light a candle, and by the end of the day, he was in charge of making sure it was out.
His throat burned every time he showed up and he couldn't help but cry at the sight, bending over to reach the lit candles. And blowing out the candles on top of her grave dealt the final blow.
But after all of this, there was one thing he learned...
Sometimes it's the darkest right underneath the lamppost.

I apologize. I'm just... Really not okay at the moment. I hope this depressing thing was enjoyable.
