Ah, victory. Sweet like sugar, fine like wine, and satisfying like a warm summer day.
Defeat, bitter like berries, haunting like a nightmare, unsettling like the darkness in the middle of the night.
Aoba Johsai versus Datekogyo. A three set match, tiring until the very end and filled with amazing plays – victory granted to the team that utilized the situation best.
Oikawa threw a glass of alcohol back as his head was rubbed by Iwaizumi, a big smile lingering on his lips as his other teammates cheered him on.
Futakuchi, on the other hand, stared at his glass with clenched fists and seemed ready to smash it whenever he'd get the chance to.
They were so close to victory, so why couldn't their wall block that last ball? Why was it that Oikawa was always one step ahead of him, no matter how hard he practiced?
It was always the same. Every match they played, for the two years they've challenged each other. Oikawa and his team would always win. When was it his turn?
Somewhere deep down he was angry with Oikawa for making him eat his dust every time, but somehow he was also envious. Not only of his skills; the fact that he had the girls swooning around him all the time bothered him too.
He finally took his first swig of alcohol and put his glass down a little too forcefully, worrying the captain of his team. Especially when seeing the look on the vice-captain's face when realizing he smashed the glass.
A waitress rushed to his side and instantly grabbed the boy's hand, cleaning the cut and offering him a new drink.
Oikawa watched with a glint in his eye before getting up and walking over, dropping his hand on the girl's shoulder as he smirked at Futakuchi.
Futakuchi's eye twitched at the unspoken competition and flinched when feeling alcohol being applied to his wound, gritting his teeth when the waitress wrapped some bandage around it.
Oikawa played with the girl's hair and it wasn't long before he ticked his rival off, but then again, it was his nature. "What's a cute girl like you doing in a bar like this at night?"
The setter continued to flirt with her and winked at Futakuchi, making the blood rush through his veins.
"She doesn't want your flirting, Oikawa."
"Ah, that's cute~ Haven't you lost enough today, Kenji-chan?"
The smirk across Oikawa's face was taunting, and if anything, Futakuchi fell for it. "I'm tired of losing to you."
Futakuchi got up shoved him out of the way, getting ready to walk outside and leave the place if it wasn't for Oikawa getting in between him and the doorframe.
"You can have her, if you want~ I'll give you a win. That's what you want, right?"
Maybe it was the alcohol getting to him, or maybe it was the aspirin he took this morning, but Futakuchi's expression went blank as he thought. Was he really envious, or was it something else? Now that he thought about it, had Oikawa's eyes always been that color?
"I want you to get out of the way before I'll do something I regret." He calmly replied, which he managed to surprise himself with. For as calm as he acted, his mind was a crowded mess.
He was reminded of why he never drank alcohol as he waited for Oikawa to move, who simply shook his head instead. "I can't recall you ever regretting something. You're getting so mature, Kenji-chan!"
Iwaizumi shook his head and gestured Oikawa to stop, but the setter wouldn't have any of it – not even when Futakuchi karate chopped his head.
He felt kind of bad for hitting him, but that wasn't what he had to worry about now. His heart was racing after the contact, and he needed a way to calm it down before it would become worse.
Why was his heart rate speeding up, anyways?
He put his hand on the door handle and really planned on leaving this time, but yet again Oikawa was there to keep him from doing so.
"Can you just let me leave? If you're just gonna steal something away from me again, I'm not interested."
Oikawa pouted, "But I had the greatest idea! Can I steal one more thing of you?"
"What kind of question is that? No."
"Fine, I'll steal your heart another time then. Until we meet again, Kenji-chan~"
Futakuchi was in the midst of the doorframe as the words rang in his ear, his curiosity getting the better of him. Steal his heart? Could that be why his heartbeat was so fast?
"Steal my...?"
Oikawa smirked at the fact that he got Futakuchi to stay and pinned him against the wall, his lips hovering above the second year's with a glint of lust in his eyes.
It all dawned upon Futakuchi now, and he cursed at himself for drinking alcohol at this time. To be fair, he was actually starting to get irritated. If Oikawa wanted to kiss him so badly, then why didn't he just do it?
"You're cute when you're blushing, Kenji-chan~"
"Just do it already."
Futakuchi rolled his eyes before feeling a hand trace his thigh, gasping at the sudden contact and feeling a pair of lips crash with his.
This is not how he imagined this night to go, but it was certainly one to remember.
