I can't believe it. Mark has succeeded at being nice. He was very cold towards everyone else, and now he's really nice. Especially to me. I hate to say it, but I'm starting to really like him. I wanted to talk to him about my feelings until I saw him talking to the most popular girl, Vanessa.

(A/N: remember Vanessa from Flipping Into Love??)

She's prettier and taller, and at the moment, I lost all my confidence. I walked away with a frown, blocking all the noise, and I heard footsteps behind me. A hand was placed on my shoulder to stop me and then the person pulled me behind and back hugged me.

"I've been screaming your name for about a million times, Wendy!"

I could recognize that voice anywhere. It was the one and only Mark. Mark, the boy who's out of my league and deserves better.

"I couldn't hear you."

Tears started to form.

"Why are you crying?"

"Because I'm an idiot. I was so rude to you that I drove you away, to another girl. A prettier, better, taller girl. And now I'm crying like a loser because I lost the only guy that actually had a thing for me. And that I truly liked."

"Are you hearing yourself right now? I like you for you! I don't care if you're short - that's adorable. Your beauty outshines hers. The only person I want to be my love interest is you. Wendy Son. I still have a thing for you. And I'm glad you were rude, I like girls who play hard to get. I want to earn and work for their affection. Plus, you changed me in ways I can't thank you for. So, thank you, Wendy Son, the love of my life."

And then he did the unexpected. He kissed me, and I kissed him back.

"Wow, you really downgraded," Vanessa said, "Her? Really?"

"If anything, I upgraded. Your face may be pretty, but your heart says otherwise."

And with that, he walked away, holding my hand, while I was staring at him with astonishment.
