Lost and Found: WenV (2)

It's everyone's favorite time of the year: the last month of school. To prepare for the end of the year, the school hosts a talent show. Of course, Wendy plans to perform in the event because of her angelic voice and fluid dance moves. 

Taehyung has always admired Wendy from a distance. Even though they have been classmates for the longest time, he has never dared to initiate a conversation with her. He could not even hand his yearbook to her for her to write a farewell message. Since Wendy is pretty and popular, she has a long list of suitors. Ergo, Taehyung does not feel as if he can handle the competition, so he is content with being in the same room as her. One day, he decides that stealing glances at her is not enough. That day is the day of the talent show. 

It is Wendy's turn to perform. She sings the song "Bang Bang" by Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj while dancing to her choreography. Taehyung is captivated by her stage presence; Wendy looks the happiest on stage. Midway through the performance, Wendy shakes her head forcefully, sending her earring flying off. It lands near the right edge of the stage by the stairs. No one in the audience seems to realize she is missing an earring. Taehyung is worried that she will step on it and fall. 

Please be careful while you're dancing, Wendy. 

Thankfully, Wendy finishes performing without stepping on the earring. The crowd goes wild, screaming and giving her a round of applause. Taehyung claps for her with a smile plastered on his face. He forgets about the earring momentarily until more people enter the stage after her. He is still concerned about her earring because the other performers may damage her earring or become injured. 

Anxiously waiting for the show to be done, Taehyung keeps an eye on the accessory. He hastily scans the room to see if Wendy is near. Unable to find her, he focuses on the jewelry. Finally, the hosts of the talent show announce the winner. It is no surprise that Wendy wins the show with her singing and dancing abilities. Singing and dancing simultaneously is difficult, yet Wendy provides a seamless performance. 

The hosts award Wendy a gold medal, and the photographers snap pictures of everyone on stage. People get up from their seats and leave once the lights illuminate the room, which indicates that the talent show is over. As the performers and staff members walk off the stage, Taehyung runs to the stairs. The custodians are sweeping the middle of the stage. Luckily, the right edge of the stage is untouched, so he can retrieve the earring. When the earring is in the palm of his hands, he blows on it and wipes it with his shirt. All that is left to his mission is to return the accessory to the rightful owner. His eyes urgently look for Wendy. 

Where are you?

The search for Wendy is unsuccessful despite the room being empty now that everyone is going home. Desperate, Taehyung yells out, "Wendy!"

No one answers. 

Suddenly, he hears her voice. She is surrounded by her friends: Irene, Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri. "Have you guys seen my earring?" Wendy blurts. "I thought you were wearing it," Irene responds while patting down her clothes in case the earring has fallen into them. "Maybe it fell on stage," Seulgi suggests. "Yeah, you were dancing with a lot of energy," Joy reasons. "I'll go check on the stage to see if it's there," Yeri informs. "My mom gave me those earrings and she's going to be upset if I lost one of them," Wendy cries. "Don't worry, Wendy. We'll find it," Irene assures. The rest of the girls disperse to search for it. 

Taehyung sprints to Wendy. "I found your earring!" he exclaims while breathing deeply. Wendy's eyes widen at the sight of her classmate that has never spoken a word to her. "Thank you, Taehyung," she responds. 

She knows my name. 

"You're welcome, Wendy." Wendy opens her hand and Taehyung places the earring delicately into it. He even closes her hand so that the earring is secure with her wrapped fingers. "Great performance, by the way. You were amazing on stage," he adds nervously. 

Taken aback by his compliments, Wendy repeats mindlessly, "Thank you, Taehyung." His lips curve up and Wendy loses her train of thought. She wants to say more, but she does not know how to continue the conversation. Out of nowhere, she asks, "Can you help me put my earring back on?" Taehyung replies, "I can try, but I've never done this before." Wendy bites her lip to restrain herself from smiling. Taehyung carefully attaches the earring to her ear. She thanks him again and tells him, "You've never talked to me before, either." Flustered, he looks down with his hand on his neck. 

This is my chance to confess. It is now or never. 

"I was too scared to talk to you because I like you," he says shyly.

"You like me?" Wendy questions.

Taehyung nods. "I wanted to let you know before the year ends." 

"I like you, too!" she chirps as she jumps into his arms. Taehyung catches her and she holds onto him with her legs around his waist. 

Irene, Seulgi, and Joy cannot find the earring, so they approach Wendy to tell her the news. They stare at Wendy and Taehyung in awe and Yeri joins them. Before she opens her mouth, Irene covers it and shushes her. "Looks like Wendy found her earring and a boyfriend," Irene notifies the group.

"I lost my earring, but I found you," Wendy whispers into Taehyung's ear with a smile. He squeezes her harder.
