Second Chances: MarkDy (2)

Prologue;

9th grade

February 21, the day where Mark confessed and asked out Wendy. On her birthday. He bought an Olaf plushie and waited until after school to ask her out.

After school

He waited for Wendy to come out and when he saw her standing alone, he immediately ran towards her.

"Olaf!" he exclaimed.

"Dimsum!" she replied.

Mark got on one knee, took out the Olaf plushie and said, "Some people are worth melting for. And some are worth giving love to. Wendy, will you give me the permission to love you? In other words, will you go out with me?"

"Yes, yes, yes! I never thought you would ask!" she responded, smiling widely.

She squeezed the living daylights out of him.

Throughout their years of dating, Mark has given Wendy so many items. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, stuffed animals, his hoodies, Jansport backpacks, converse, etc. Wendy keeps these things in a box and looks at them daily to remind herself how lucky she is to have the best boyfriend ever. In return, Wendy bakes and cooks for him a lot.

Little did she know, Mark has been failing his classes, not studying for tests, not doing his homework, nor trying, because of her. All he ever wanted to do was be with her. She wasn't aware because he was never in her classes and never talked about it either. His parents didn't seem to care at all. Mark had told his friends to not tell Wendy. He made them pinky promise as well. Jaebum couldn't stand to see his friend choose Wendy over his education. So he told her.

11th grade

Jaebum arrived to school early, with evidence, and searched for Wendy. He found her, alone, and walked towards her. He waved and Wendy said, "Hi."

"I need to talk to you."

"About what?"

"Ever since you guys started dating, Mark has been failing his classes. He doesn't try when it comes to his studies. He doesn't even do his own homework. I'm not sure how he passed, though. I promised him not to tell you, but I can't watch him screw up his education."

He showed her one of his tests. He only attempted one problem.

"Thanks for telling me. I don't want him to fail because of me."

And with that, she walked away to find Mark.

"Mark!"

"Yeah?"

"You know I love you, right?"

"Yes."

"And that I want you to have a bright future."

"Yup."

"Which is why we need to break up."

"WHAT?!"

"I know you've been failing your classes and not telling me."

"Who told you this?"

"Jaebum."

"He's lying."

"Mark, I don't want you to go to a bad college because of me."

"I promise I'll do better! Just don't break up with me, please."

"I'm sorry, Mark. I'm only doing this to ensure you succeed."

"If I do succeed, will we get back together?"

"I don't know. I don't want you to fail again because of me."

She walked away, leaving Mark heartbroken, and with tears rolling down her face.

As much as Mark wanted to punch Jaebum, he knew he did it for his sake.

Wendy arrived at home and cried her heart out. She looked into the box of Mark's presents for her. One things that stood out most was the heart necklace he gave her. M ❤️ W was engraved. Inside, there was picture of Mark kissing her forehead. Oh how much she wished to receive his kisses again. To make things worse, she looked through her phone and stared at all of the pictures she took of him. She took out Mark's hoodie and wore it, slept with it, while pretending to be in his arms.
