My Theory

@Icee-Loves-Tea, you're going to love me forever.

Or maybe hate me forever.

I really don't know.

Although Don's backstory never mentioned a "struggle" between Don and Furius for dominance of Don's body, I believe he was weakened by the euphoria of bringing Scarlet to the dance (so it wasn't hard for Furius to take over Don), or there was a fight, but it isn't mentioned because Don is in shock.

After Scarlet was brutally murdered (by a complete and total asshole named Furius), Don was torn, and had no strength to try to prevent Furius from controlling him.

However, when Furius attempted to attack Runi, Don was determined not to let Furius hurt someone he cared about, and stopped Furius.

In the second chapter of the story, we can hear a "Voice" (later proved to be Furius). The Voice tried to convince Don that he can solve Don's bullying problems. This Voice persists throughout the story.

In Chapter 4, Furius was inhabiting the animatronic Scar, looking for a victim. I believe he considered Daniel, but Daniel was upbeat and happy, making it harder for Furius to "break" him. Furius was looking for someone who was insecure and self-conscious - Don. Furius offered Don great strength, and Don mentions feeling very powerful when he handles the scythe, saying his arm felt a lot better, and the chapter ends, saying:

-Just what kind of POWER is this ghost offering me?-

This implies that Furius is a very powerful demon, and we can see this in Gray and Red, the prequel to GIACC, when Fell struggles to break the bond Furius had put between them. In the fight, Furius beats Fell by a long shot, forcing him to go into the future. It actually proves to be important to the plot, however.

Anyways, I think Furius decided that Don was not going to give in, and that he was stronger than he appeared. And so Furius, being a powerful demon, took over Don, pushing him out of his own body, where we are told he watches the mass murderings of his classmates. As soon as Scarlet is killed, Furius leaves, letting Don get a closer look at what Furius did.

And I have come to the conclusion that Furius probably has a mental disorder called Peter Pan syndrome. Named after the famous Peter Pan, this disorder occurs in males who are socially immature. They never want to do any work, and only want to have whimsical fun.

However, this can lead to arrogance and cockiness. Furius was banished from the "Under" (or Hell), for unknown reasons. He is seen torturing a young boy in the first chapter or so of GAR, implying that he felt above him and whatever Master Ie was teaching. This could be a subtle sign of arrogance.

While Furius isn't too narcissistic, another one of the symptoms is temper tantrums when things don't go their way. And it is clear that because Don refused Furius's power, stripping him of an actual host other than a robot, Furius got mad, inhabited Don anyways, and killed everyone. Furius believed he was punishing Don for not seeing things his way. From Furius's point of view, it looked as if Don had taken Furius's chances of a human host away, and so the only thing to do in his malicious mind was to punish him, or kill Scarlet.

As said above, Furius isn't too narcissistic. He just likes hurting people to take advantage, because he is a powerful demon, and thinks he deserves to be above all others. Also, he probably does it for fun, however warped and disturbed that may be.

I've done minimal research, and all or most of these symptoms appear in a psychopath.

1). Unreliability, absence of responsibility, failure to learn from experience, untruthfulness, etc.

Furius is known to go on "temper tantrums" when he loses or doesn't get his way. He lies a lot throughout the stories he is mentioned in, and usually doesn't keep his word unless he benefits from whatever he has to do.

2) Self-centered, lack of emotions, unable to see oneself as others do.

Although it is shown that Furius likes to hurt for the fun of it, we can also prove that he can't see himself like other people do. Take Don, for example. Furius offers him power and Don refuses. Furius is unable to reason that Don maybe didn't want it, just because that's the kind of person he is, because Furius thinks that everyone is like him.

3) High intelligence, superficial charm and smooth talking.

As said above, Furius is a powerful demon, and we can only guess that some of it comes from his brightness. But he is known to lie, only because us, the readers, see what he does that lets us know he is lying, while the other characters do not. This concludes that he is sly and able to make a convincing lie. He can also manipulate others.

4) Lack of guilt or emotional response, lack of sympathy, shallow personality.

Furius doesn't react normally to deaths, as most psychopathic people don't. He also killed a lot of people while possessing Don, maybe more when he was still a body-type-thing. And he didn't even feel like it was his fault for killing those people, acting like it was Don.

Because I suck at conclusions, I'm just going to leave this on a mysterious note.
