She was woken up from her deep slumber by a tap on her shoulder. She opened and rubbed her eyes and got out of the car with a small duffel bag that had some of her clothes and followed Patrick into a large motel.
Yet another day had passed with them on the road and finally they had arrived at the outskirts of the beautiful town of New Orleans. He got them their rooms and told her to get dressed because he wanted to take her out for dinner much to her disgust. But she didn't have any other choice but to comply with his wish.
She decided to take a long shower that lasted about an hour long before she got dressed in a black knee length skirt with a black vest and a navy blue cardigan. She let her hair open and it flowed around her shoulders before she put on a necklace and earrings. She finished the look with a pair of black heels. She took a black purse, putting in a handkerchief and lip balm . She looked at her sad reflection in the mirror before walking out of the room to where Patrick had been patiently waiting for her for close to half an hour.
He smiled at her when she saw her and she forced a smile back before following him to the car. H e talked to her but she remained silent. He took her into a small restaurant by the side of Mississippi river where the breeze was cooling and the water sparkled under the light of the full moon.
They got a table outside under the moonlight and got seated. They ordered their meals and the waitress disappeared after. She looked at the gleaming river and could feel his eyes bearing into her.
"You look so beautiful tonight Keyna," he said smiling at her and placing his arms above hers. She hid her disgust by smiling at him. "I'm so glad that you are back with me and I promise that I will never let you go."
"Great,"she says concealing her disgust so perfectly.
"So now that we are here, I was thinking that we could start a fresh. A new. I got us a house by the river a medium neat house. I got a job too and I'll start on Monday. We can arrange a wedding soon and then we can have children,"
"I want a job too," said Keyna.
"You don't need one okay. You will just stay at home clean, wash, cook and be a normal house wife okay," he said.
She moved her hands away from his and looked away.
"Look, I know that you are angry at me but this is the best thing for us, for you okay."
Meanwhile Malcolm had been able to drive as fast as his car could allow and he didn't make any stops along the way and he managed to arrive at around nine o'clock at night at the outskirts of the town.
Luckily, he was able to track down Patrick's car and so he knew exactly where he was. He drove slowly to where the car was parked and assumed that they were in the restaurant. He got out and went to study the black jeep. He looked inside and surely he was able to see some of Keyna's belongings and he smiled. He found her.
He found her! He walked into the restaurant discreetly and looked around until he spotted the love of his life, her hair flowing freely around her shoulders, her face set in a forced smile, her shoulders showing that she was tense as she looked at the shimmering river.
He maneuvered his way across the restaurant where he sat down at a corner and held a menu in front of his face thinking of the best way to approach Keyna without triggering Patrick's psychotic side. But he couldn't. He couldn't contain his desire to hold her again, to inhale her beautiful scent, to kiss her soft lips again so he stood up briskly and approached them.
Keyna immediately set her eyes on him and a warmth rose in her heart as she looked at his eyes and he looked at hers. She immediately jumped out of her seat and ran to him embracing him in a tight hug, inhaling his familiar scent, feeling the warmth of his body, feeling his soft skin, hearing his soft breathing.
Their display of affection was cut short when Patrick suddenly pulled Keyna back from Malcolm's arms. He pulled her hair causing pain as he shouted at her to explain herself threatening to kill her while she tried to free herself. He insulted her while she struggled to free herself.
Soon Patrick was staggering back blood coming out from his nose where Malcolm had punched him. Patrick off course fought back punching Malcolm at the jaw causing him to bleed. The two fought but Malcolm overwhelmed Patrick and now he was on the ground being punched endlessly by Malcolm.
"That's for ever laying a hand on her," he said punching him, "And that's for giving her scars," he said adding another punch, "and that's for taking her away," he said adding another one. "That's for ever hurting her," he said punching Patrick once again before being pulled away by observers.
Patrick held out a gun and pointed it at Keyna much to everybody's shock.
"I gave you a chance. I gave you a chance to be with me again, a chance to be happy and this is what I get back," he says pointing the gun around the room before pointing it back at her, "You have given me no other choice. I have to erase you from this world. I am going to kill you Keyna, he said putting his finger on the trigger.
Before he could shoot her there was a loud shot and his body was sprawled on the floor. He had been shot at the shoulder and blood was oozing out freely.
Policemen had silently entered during his outburst and one of them had shot him before he shot Keyna.
Keyna fell to the ground tears rushing out of her eyes freely. She felt a warm presence around her as Malcolm held her close to him while she cried and the police and nurses attended to Patrick and to the onlookers.
When she was done, she wiped her eyes and looked at Malcolm, "You're bleeding," she said. "Let me clean it up for you,"
"I'm fine Keyna," he said but that didn't stop her. She got cotton balls and cleaned the blood away before covering the wound on his jaw and nose up.
The police interviewed the two before they led them to the motel they were staying at to study Patrick's belongings.
They were allowed to go and Malcolm drove to a large hotel where they got a suite and he carried her there because she had fallen asleep in the car. He tucked her in before slipping in on the other side of the bed and holding her close, feeling her warmth and smelling her sweet smell, feeling her breathing silently. At this moment, he promised himself that her would never let Keyna go. Ever.
