Wanting the Bad Boy - Chapter 19: My Happy Ending
Colbie's POV
I sat in the car on the way to school. My mom was dropping me off today on her way to work. The only thing that was horrible about this was that her boyfriend, John, was in the car too. He was this rich snobby guy with two kids that annoyed the crap out of me. He thought he was so much better than everyone. I put my head phones in my ears and blocked the world out.
I couldn't even enjoy one song before my mom was talking to me. "Colbie," she said getting my attention.
"What?" I asked.
"How old were you for your Uncle Jackson's wedding?" she asked.
"I don't know, I was really little. I don't even remember it," I said about to put my headphones back in. Before I could though, something I heard caught my attention.
"Well, anyway. I think she was probably about two. It was right after I had gotten a divorce with my ex husband. The wedding was right down there," my mom said pointing towards an open area down the road.
I held my breath. Two? I was two years old? My parents couldn't keep their marriage for longer than that? They had to get divorced when I was two? I didn't know when it happened until she said that. I always knew it was when I was little, because I hadn't been able to remember them together. I never imagined it was when I was two.
I didn't remember a thing about when they were together. Like I said, I didn't remember the wedding, and that was after they got divorced. My eyes got watery. I was mad and sad and everything else. I was glad that I knew now. I had been wondering for so long and could never ask. I was mad that I was only two. I had no way of remembering. For years I wasted my birthday wishes on them. I wished that they would get back together every year. I was so stupid. I was naïve, I guess.
We pulled up to the school and I got out without saying anything. I walked toward the doors, but was stopped by someone. They grabbed my arm and pulled me away from the doors.
I turned around and saw it was a girl. She looked older than me. She looked grown up and mature. I wiped my eyes. She had blonde hair and tannish skin. Her eyes were a radiant hazel color. I gave her a questioning look. "Do I know you?" I asked.
She looked at me like I had just offended her. I had no idea who she was. "I'm Candace," she said, "Alex's girlfriend." My breath hitched. This day just got better and better.
"Why are you here?" I really didn't want to deal with this so early in the day.
She crossed her arms in front of her chest. "I wanted to make it clear that Alex is mine. I want you to stay away from him. He's been seeing me too. I know you two hang out a lot and stuff, but what you have is nothing compared to what we have, so back off," she said glaring at me. "He's mine." I didn't have anything to say. She looked at me annoyed. "I know he went to your house the other night. He went over there after he saw me. He had just been at my house. He got upset. That's the only reason why he even went to see you." Her words echoed in my head. "You were just a second choice. But you won't be anymore. You'll stay away," she said taking a few steps closer, "right?"
I nodded. "You have nothing to worry about." I brushed past her and went inside.
I went to my locker and put my books away. He had just been at my house, I heard again. I walked through the hallway and saw people smiling and laughing. It felt like they were all looking at me. I put my head down and went to the bathroom. I took a wet paper towel and wiped my eyes. They were already puffy and red. This day was actually sent from hell.
