Wanting the Bad Boy - Chapter 35: Rush

Alex's POV

Colbie climbed into my truck promptly at 8:15 the next morning. We were on a mission. We had to find my sister. I was convinced it was her. I really was. I had  lost almost all hope after the Florida trip, but it was not a coincidence that she was back. This was my sister.

We sped down the road and into the city. This was where Colbie lived before. She knew her way around pretty well. Her friend Shealeigh was giving us a play by play of everything that was happening there. Jessica texted Shealeigh's younger sister, Emily and told her she was coming back to visit. They were going to meet up today.

Colbie had gone out on a limb and asked them to meet outside of the historical town hall from the 1800's in the square. That was where we would be, waiting for her.

I was glad I had Colbie helping me because she picked up on things I didn't. She noticed that it was weird that Shealeigh was helping us so much. The whole ride into the city she looked concerned by that. She talked to me about it a little bit, but I could tell there was more bothering her.

She told me the story about how they ended their friendship. She said the night I saved her, she was out with her friends and they completely abandoned her at a club. I knew that inside she knew she could never forgive her friends. I told her they all probably felt bad for what happened. Especially Shealeigh, since they were best friends. I told her she was probably trying to make up for her mistakes in the past.

Emily told Shealeigh that Jessica posted a picture on Instagram two minutes ago. She hadn't been active on this account since she moved away. The picture she posted was from outside of the Kessler Museum. The caption read, I'm back, come visit me. She also posted on Snapchat saying that she was back in the area. Colbie didn't have the picture sent to her but Emily said it was definitely her.

We made it into the city, missing almost all of the traffic. We went straight to the town hall and sat on the steps outside. It was 8:45. We had 15 minutes until the plan was about to come into action. Emily told Jessica they would meet outside of the hall, but it was really going to be us two waiting there for her. If it was really her, we would see for ourselves.

Colbie snaked her hand into mine and laced our fingers together. "Are you nervous?" she asked looking up at me. I nodded slowly.

My heart was racing a mile a minute. I was confused by all of this. I didn't know how I was supposed to feel. I was happy, but also sad. Happy because I would be finding my sister, but sad when I thought about it not being her. It made me angry to think about all of the way they let me believe my sister was dead. The years of lies my parents told me. The years of her life I missed.

Colbie could see the confusion in my emotions. She pulled me close to her and rested her head against my chest in a hug. I smiled down as I kissed the top of her head.

I closed my eyes as we hugged and buried my face in her hair. She smelt like tropical fruits. I laughed to myself and my smile grew. Colbie made everything easier. I wouldn't be able to face this without her. She made this possible. I kissed her temple with my eyes still closed.

As I pulled away and opened my eyes, they looked across the square, and locked with a pair of ice cold, blue eyes that matched mine. My jaw dropped as I released Colbie from my grip.

The short bundle of shoulder length brown hair was looking around the crowd frantically. She knew, I thought. She stood close to the tall man next to her. She looked up at him and asked something that I couldn't understand. She was too far away for me to be able to read her lips and the groups of people milling around with their own conversations made it impossible to hear your own thoughts.
