Our costumes were flawless, at least in my eyes they were. I remember my mom telling me that the eye of the creator is usually biased and boy was mine biased.
While everyone else at the superhero run went for the typical superheroes; Batman, Superman, Captain America, Jedi's and sodas, we all were one hundred percent original.
Gene had bought an all white outfit with a white cape and she stayed up all night writing big fancy vocabulary words over it and their definition, she was High Definition.
Leopold had gotten an all white outfit as well and painted it to look like a galaxy, he called himself Spaceman and black holes were his specialty.
Rodney went with mustache man much to our delight and he topped off his muscle shaped mustache with a suit and tie. I'm not sure what he was supposed to do, I think he just wanted to look cool.
Andrew had dressed in black and green and called himself Night-fury.
Lucy and I had settled on an all purple outfit for her and all blue outfit for me with makeshift sling shots. Attached to our belts were little bags filled with paper clips.
Walking out onto that field with our capes flowing behind us in the spring breeze gave me a sense of power. I felt like I could take on the world as long as I had Mustache Man, High Definition, Spaceman, Night-fury, and my personal favorite, Paper Clip Girl by my side.
How the run went was each group would stand together and the group would need to stay together while running. Fortunately they had planned this on a decent day weather wise, so I didn't have to worry about overheating.
While superheroes and a couple villains piled onto the track, parents sat in the bleachers and on picnic blankets in the grass to cheer on their kids. The turn out was better then the school had expected and they seemed really happy about it.
"So what are we going to do when Rodney runs out of steam after the second lap?" Leopold asked and Rodney glared at him as Andrew slung an arm over our out of shape friend.
"I'll drag him behind us by his limp feet." He informed, earning a smack over the head by Rodney.
"If one of us runs out of steam, we'll slow down to a walk until they can breath properly again." I decided. Slowing down to a brisk walk would be easier then dragging Rodney around the track by his feet.
"Yeah, I'm with Ben that'll probably work out better." Lucy giggled, smiling brightly as she glanced at me and I smiled back at her before we both looked back to the others.
Before I could carry out the conversation furthermore though I heard a shrill whistle then the cat calls of my family who were all leaning over the fence surrounding the track.
"Whoo! Ragazzo! Make your papa proud!"
"Make sure your shoes are tied honey, I don't want you to trip!"
"Ben, you look like you have the butt of a fourteen year old girl in that outfit!"
At their shouts my friends smirked at me as I turned red and excused myself so I could run over to my family and tell them to get lost before I moved out.
"Guys! What are you doing?" I asked upon running up to them and before I could dodge him my dad grabbed my head and kissed my cheek.
"Cheering you on Benjamin! We're so proud of you!" He beamed. I tried to fight my smile, really I did but my dad was to cute to get mad at when I felt this happy.
"Thanks dad, I'll have an intervention with you later about public affection." I teased and he laughed as I leaned over the fence to hug my mom and sister.
