After my conversation with Wally we both went quiet and watched Tom and Jerry until Lucy was ready to go. Badly I wanted to say something to her about what Wally said but I knew it would do more bad then good so I decided to pretend that part of my morning hadn't happened.

Instead Lucy and I laughed about my poorly executed escape this morning on the way to the radio show while she complained about losing her phone.

As usual Lucy did the radio show with me but instead of taking her right to school afterwards I decided to take her to the hospital.

Since Lucy had told me she missed being Luke's friend last night I decided the two of them were going to reconnect. Of course I wasn't going to tell Lucy that, I knew she wouldn't go for it so like always I was going to have to convince her. I felt my chances were better if I didn't tell her where we were going.

"I hope this place isn't far, I don't want to be late for school," Lucy said.

"Oh c'mon Lu, we've missed two days what's an hour?" I asked, making her roll her eyes.

"I just wish I had my phone, its bothering me that I can't find it. I hope I didn't leave it in New York." She fretted, making me laugh.

"Lucy you called me on it last night, I'm sure it just fell between your mattress or something. I'll help you look for it after school." I reassured. I know it was mean to make light of someone's frustration but Lucy was really cute when she worried about nothing.

"Okay, okay. I just...ugh! I don't like not having my phone!" She groaned dramatically as she slouched in the seat. I just chuckled and gave her knee a soft squeeze before pulling into the hospital parking lot.

When I did she sat up fast.

"Why are we at the hospital?" She asked.

"I was thinking we could pay Luke a visit before school,"I said cautiously as I parked the car.

"You mean that you're going to pay a visit right?" She asked, emphasizing each word.

"No, we." I then turned off the car before turning to her. "Lucy, Luke is one of my best friends and he's a really big part of my life. You are to, I can't have you both on bad or awkward terms. I think its time to face the past and make some peace with it." Quickly Lucy shook her head as she tightened her seatbelt.

"No Ben. I don't want to see him. That's not your decision," She said harshly and I shrugged.

"Your right, that's not my decision but sometimes a guy has to make a choice for his girl that she doesn't like." I informed. At that Lucy smiled a little.

"His girl?" She asked as she looked over at me, both scowling and smiling.

"His girl." I then unbuckled her seat-belt. "Now get out of the car before I pull you and out carry you into the hospital." I warned as I unbuckled my seatbelt as well and got out.

"You wouldn't dare," Lucy said. Didn't this girl know me better by now?

"I'm not arguing about this Lucy. Get out of the car." I warned before shutting my door. When I did Lucy, being the difficult girl she was, locked the door. Sometimes she made me want to laugh and other times she made me want to bang my head on a wall. Muttering to myself I walked around to her side and unlocked the car. "Next time you try to lock me out of my own car, make sure I don't have the keys," I said after I had opened her door and Lucy stuck her tongue out at me.

Fine, let her be difficult, I'd be difficult right back.

So with no further warning, I leaned over her seat and with a swift motion I unbuckled her before slipping my arms around her bridal style and pulling her out of the car.

"Ben! Benjamin Jerry Alderman put me down right now!" Lucy shouted, squirming in my arms. Sometimes I think she forget that I was twice her size and just as stubborn.

"I gladly will when we get inside the hospital. You need to see Luke and talk to him, its going to be good for the both of you. No buts about it, I need you to trust that by now I know whats best for both of you guys," I said firmly, not harshly, firmly.

"Ben so help me I will bite you." Lucy frowned as I kicked my car door shut and locked it.

"Go ahead. I still won't put you down." For a brief moment I'm pretty sure Lucy considered it but instead she just stuck her tongue out at me. Smiling, I then kissed her cheek. "I love you and your going to appreciate this," I said as she pushed my face away.

"Yeah, yeah whatever." She grumbled.

This girl.

After that Lucy was quiet as I carried her inside, then when we got up to the front desk where the visitors check in I put her down so we could sign in. I could tell she really didn't want to do this and deep down I really didn't want to make her do this but I knew she was ready and that she needed this. Both of them obviously missed each other and I think it'd do Lucy good if she had someone on her side that understood the pain from her loss.

It wasn't until we got up to Luke's room and were standing outside the door that Lucy finally spoke. "What if he doesn't want to talk to me?" She whispered and I grabbed her hand before giving it a firm squeeze.

"He does. It'll be okay, I'm going to be with you the entire time." I then grabbed her chin and before she could protest I gave her soft, quick kiss.

"Its okay Lucy." I promised and she smiled just a little as she gripped my hand.

"Okay, okay, okay lets do this." She breathed and with out a second thought from either of us we walked into the room. When Luke saw me he sat up with a big smile a smile that faded when he saw Lucy.

"Lucy?" He managed to get out and shyly she waved.

"Hi Luke," She said softly. A sad smile then appeared on his face as he waved back.

"Hi."

I wasn't sure what it was but as they both said their hello's I felt this incredible rush go through me and someone somewhere that I couldn't see told me I was doing the right thing. Letting go of my hand, Lucy then walked over to his bedside and sat down slowly.

"I'm sorry about your accident, at least you got to miss school," She said, making him laugh and relax as he sat back against his pillows.

"Yeah, that was kind of nice. What have you been up to lately?"

For the next hour after that the two of them talk while I listened. First it was light conversation, then they got into some heavier stuff that I pretended not to listen to as I played on my phone. They talked about their parents, they talked about memories they had as little kids, they talked about school, and then they talked about me. I did listen to that part of the conversation even though it was mostly them teasing me.

Then, the time came for us to make reluctant goodbyes and after I said mine to Luke I backed down so Lucy and him could say theirs.

"Are you going to come visit me again?" He asked hopefully as Lucy stood up and she nodded.

"I'd love to, only if you want that is," She said.

"Of course I do! Your welcome to come by here anytime and when I get out your more then welcome to come over or we should hang out after school," He said in a rush before sighing heavily. "I've missed you Lucy, I've missed you a lot." He admitted and she got a little teary eyed as they then hugged.

I thought that I'd feel jealous if this went well, that I'd want my best friend to have nothing to do with the girl I was crazy about and that I would feel left out I didn't share the deep connection they had but instead I felt overwhelmed with happiness.

Who knew reconnecting two old friends could feel so wonderful?
