I wasn't a fighter; I was more of a lover. The only fights I had ever truly got in was with my sister when we were little, other than that I was a fight virgin. Hearing Jamie's heartless comment though made something snap inside of me that had never been broken.
"Do you think you're funny? Do you think it's cute to joke about my friend almost dying because of you?" I glowered and he laughed.
"I was just trying to pass him. If he was a good driver he would've been fine." Maybe if I hadn't been so emotionally distraught, maybe if I hadn't been the one to try to free Luke from the wreck, maybe if I hadn't had so much go wrong today--then I would've been able to walk away.
Instead though I charged at him like a bat out of hell and I drove my fist so hard into his abominable mouth I could hear his tooth crack. Almost immediately after Jamie retaliated with a strong blow to my jaw and we both stumbled back. We weren't apart for long before we charged at each other again and this time we went sprawling across the hall while throwing punches at each other.
As said I've never been in a real fight before, but I think this was going quite well. Each time I hit that sorry miscreant I felt some of my anger and stress fade a little. It was satisfying because he deserved it. He deserved every bruise and the bloody lip I gave him.
Around us a crowd began to form, mostly of guys, and they chanted us on as the girls stayed back worriedly. I think the only one who was yelling at us to stop rather than cheer us on was Andrew, but I could barely hear him over the slurs Jamie was shouting at me. Fighting wasn't actually as scary as I had thought; the only thing that made me nervous was how angry I was at him right now.
I felt like I was going to kill him and to be honest, I think I may have if the football coaches didn't come running out and tore us apart.
Stupidly I fought against them at first and that got me pinned against the wall. My ears were ringing so loud though from the dying down crowd and my anger, that I could barely hear him.
"Let me at him! Let me finish! I'm not done with him!" I screamed, struggling hard as one of the guidance counselors came over to help the coach restrain me. He was a little nicer about it. By then Jamie had already been removed and that was when I began to give up and allowed them to drag me to the office.
By the time we got to the office the coach had stopped screaming but he said something to the other teacher about not leaving until I had calmed down. I already was though. My breathing was still heavy and I was suddenly in all sorts of physical pain but I was calming down. Hopefully I had gotten my message across.
"How about you get him something to clean up the blood and maybe an ice pack? I'll sit here with him until the principal gets back from her meeting. He's probably going to be in here for a while and I don't want him to be in pain." The counselor said and the coach looked at me warily before leaving with a mutter. The counselor then looked over at me.
"Geez kid. You look like you got hit by a bus," He said and I looked away, avoiding his stare. Sighing he sat down next to me.
"I'm Oscar. I don't know if you know me, but I definitely know you. My little boy loves your radio show. Ben right?" He asked and I looked up at him before looking away.
"Yeah." I mumbled.
"Nice to meet you Ben, care to tell me why you were trying to put that kid in his grave?" He inquired. He seemed like a nice guy but I wasn't one to tell a guidance counselor my problems. I rather find a way to deal with them.
"It's not important," I said, just wishing he'd leave me alone.
"I'm sure it was. You seem like a nice guy, and nice guys don't fight without a reason," He said as he sat back and rested his hands on his knees.
