After the visit with Luke I swung by McDonald's to get Lucy and I breakfast before going to school. By the time we walked through the doors homeroom had just let out so I decided to walk Lucy to first period. The whole time she had been really quiet and I wasn't sure if that worried me or was a good sign. All I knew for sure was that she was thinking hard about something.
"Seriously unhealthy breakfast sandwich got your tongue?" I asked but she did nothing in response except smile a little. Sighing deeply I decided for once to back down and let her think. Instead I looked around to see if any of the others were drifting by.
That was when I noticed something really weird.
Everyone was staring at us, they were staring at us like they knew something we didn't and some of them were whispering as we walked by. I was used to people staring at me in the hallway, with being the town celebrity and all but this was a different kind of staring. I don't think they were looking at me, I think they were looking at Lucy. I'm not sure if she noticed but I did and it was really bothering me.
So as you can imagine I was relieved when we got to her first period.
"Are you going to be okay?" I asked upon opening the door for her and Lucy nodded.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. See you later," She said and before she could escape into the classroom I kissed her cheek.
"See you later."
We both then parted ways as I began to wish we had the same schedule. There was no way I could talk Oscar into that though so I'd just have to wait until lunch. Usually during the day we'd text each other in class but Lucy didn't have her phone, making that another endurance I had to bear.
That endurance though didn't stay with me long though because quickly it was forgotten when I saw Satan's spawns talking by the lockers, the lockers that were right next to my first period. Upon seeing Jamie I felt my fist clench and hot anger stir in my stomach.
I knew that for the rest of my life I'd want to break his nose every time I saw him, unfortunately I was in school today and I really didn't want to get suspended. If I got suspended, that would leave Lucy here alone with them and I didn't trust them. So instead of doing what I wanted to do, I inhaled and exhaled deeply before lowering my head in hopes they wouldn't notice me.
It was like Victoria could detect my presence with her devil horns though because right when I was about to walk into the classroom she wrapped an arm around Jamie's waist with a smirk.
"Hi Ben, did you have fun in New York this week?" She asked, making me frown.
"How did you know I was in New York?" I asked, trying to avoid looking at Jamie who was glaring at me.
"I know everything." She then patted Jamie's chest. "Oh..by the way...have you met my new boyfriend Jamie yet?" She asked, making the anger burn so hot in my chest it hurt a little.
"If this is a scheme to get me back or make Lucy and I jealous, its not going to work," I said before looking up at Jamie with a forced smile. "Hi Jamie, I hope your really really happy with Victoria because its about time she sunk her claws into someone who deserves it." I then turned away, breathing in and out deeply. "And by the way, stay away from Lucy. Both of you, she's my girl and I will do anything to protect her from the likes of you two." With that I then walked into my first period before I said anything or did anything I'd seriously regret.
A moment after I came in Andrew came on in and sat next to me.
"Hey, you look like your having a great morning. I'm guessing you ran into Victoria and Jamie?" He asked, making my jaw clench.
