"Are you sure your ready for this? We can wait you know. We don't have to go in, I'm totally fine with home-school," I said to Lucy who was curled up in the passengers seat as she stared at the steps leading up to the school.
"No, we need to do this. I need to do this." She then looked over at me with a reassuring smile. ''I'm fine Ben. I promise I'm fine and I'm going to be fine," She said and I smiled softly at her as I reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
It had been a month since Lucy woke up in the hospital room and it had been a long month. Almost longer then my thirty-three days. After all the excitement had died down from her waking up, the two of us sat down and we had a long honest talk.
We talked about the journal, we talked about Jamie and Victoria, we talked about Luke, I told her about the new radio show, I told her how I felt about her even though she already knew, and just anything that came to mind was said and nothing was held back. Once everything was out on the table it felt like a massive burden had been lifted off my shoulders and I think it made Lucy and I closer then ever.
The recovery process was long and hard.
Lucy was in the hospital for another week after waking up so they could make sure she was perfectly healthy before letting her go, then she had to go to a group for suicidal teens, one I wanted to attend with her to support her but she said she needed to do that part alone.
At first the group was a hard on her but after her first week there I saw a positive change in her. She finally was accepting the help she needed and because of that she was having an easier time getting along with her parents.
I finally got to officially meet her mom in the hospital and it turns out she was a very nice woman, one who regretted losing her relationship with Lucy and wanted to mend it. Oscar wanted to mend his relationship with Lucy as well and this time he really really tried, one hundred percent.
In the mean time Luke got out of the hospital as well, just a little bit before Lucy did and I got to finally introduce him to everyone. As expected he loved Leopold, Gene, Andrew and Rodney and we both agreed to spend more time with them then the popular snobs we hung around.
We also swore off our frequent partying and decided a party once a month with no drag racing was better.
Shortly after that I did my final Radio Boy performance and announced my new radio show, Radio Boy and the Fusions. I guess Rachel was right, when God closes a door he opened a window and he opened this one wide. When the show first aired two weeks after Lucy got out of the hospital the response was ten times bigger then the one I got when Radio Boy first aired, making us an immediate hit.
I always thought I'd never be happy doing the show with a co-host but having everyone on the show made it more fun then I could have imagined. It was kind of nice knowing the worst was over, or at least I hoped it was but I was still scared more was yet to come as we sat in the car in the school parking lot.
This entire month I hadn't gone to school once, except to pick up my work so I could keep up with my classes but now that the doctor said Lucy was okay mentally and physically to go back I wanted to go back to so I could be with her.
"I love you Lucy," I said sincerely and she leaned over to give me a soft kiss.
"I know, I love you to and we've got this." She then punched my shoulder. "Paper clip girl and boy against the world?" She asked, making me laugh as I gently punched her shoulder back.
"Against the world, or high school at least," I said and with that we both got out of the car.
For once, I was the terrified one walking into school and Lucy was the confident one. I wasn't sure why I was so nervous, I knew what to expect for the most part but still I found myself grabbing her hand like a child.
