After Luke gave me a moment to process the new, shocking information, I quickly changed the subject. I was afraid if we talked about it to much I was going to become emotional again and I really needed a break from my feelings.
Instead I told him about Andrew and the others, about the relationship between me and Lucy, how I was trying to save Radio Boy and just anything that came to mind. All to soon though visitor hours came to an end and the nurse kicked me out of the room so they could give him his medicine and let him sleep.
Badly I wanted to stay with him but I left the room without a fight and went down to the waiting room where Rachel was waiting for me. When I got down there she told me that my parents had brought Lucy home and had went home to rest since they were both really tired out.
So with light conversation between us, Rachel and I got a bite to eat in the hospital cafeteria before walking home. By the time we got there it was pretty much the end of the day and our parents were already asleep so we both decided to retire early.
Before I crashed though I texted everyone the fantastic news that Luke had woken up and was doing great. I was going to go post it on my media accounts to but somewhere between logging into them and texting everyone, I fell asleep.
I don't remember what time I fell asleep, nor did I know what time it was when I felt my phone buzzing underneath my pillow but I knew I hadn't been asleep very long. Not bothering to check the caller ID, I slipped the phone out from under my pillow and answered it.
"Hello?" I mumbled, half asleep. Half asleep until I heard the shaky waver of Lucy's voice and suddenly I was wide awake.
"B-Ben, B-Ben are you awake?" She asked. Rubbing my eyes I sat up and turned on my bedside lamp.
"I am now, whats wrong Lu? Are you okay?" I asked worriedly. Obviously she wasn't okay or she wouldn't have called me.
"N-No, I had a n-nightmare." She then inhaled sharply.
"Ben...I know its late b-but...but can you c-come over? P-Please. I need you," She said desperately. She didn't even have to ask, the moment she said she had a nightmare I was up and looking for my shoes.
"Of course. Give me like fifteen minutes and I promise I'll be there." I reassured and she exhaled slowly.
"Thank you. J-Just...just come through the window okay? I'll leave it open."
And with that we hung up.
Quickly then I threw on any old shoes and grabbed my keys before heading out. On the way to her house though I stopped by one of those twenty-four hour drug stores and bought her a stuff elephant.
Yeah, weird I know but teddy bears are so basic and when in dismay a stuffed animal was always a good thing to have on hand. I remembered doing a school project on them Freshman year and how they reduced anxiety. If she ever had another nightmare when I wasn't around, I wanted to give her something to have on hand.
As promised I parked half a block away forom Lucy's house in fifteen minutes time, then as quietly as I could I snuck onto her front lawn. Tucking the elephant securely under my arm, I pulled myself up her roof once again, getting my second reminder that month that I needed to work out.
Once I had pulled myself up, I shuffled across the roof and over to the open window, easily then I slipped inside.
"Lucy?" I called out in a hushed whisper. With a sniffle, she then peeked out at me from underneath her blanket before tucking it underneath her chin so only her face was peeking out.
"Hi." She whispered back. Smiling sympathetically, I then walked over to the bed and knelt down in front of it before holding up the elephant.
"I bought you a present." I informed, making her smile just a little as she slipped out a hand to grab the soft toy from me.
