When you get your first car its overwhelming. There's hundreds of things you want to do, hundreds of things you need to do, and hundreds of things you haven't thought of yet. Your first instinct is to hop in, turn the key and go drive away to Neverland because suddenly you have the freedom to.
My first trip in the car though was to the least grand place you had to take your car frequently to, the gas station. After that I was made to come back home and finish my homework before it got ridiculously late. Since my suspension my parents had been cracking down on me about homework more then usual, I was pretty sure it was just a phase and was going to pass with time.
When I finished it, I texted everyone who would care about my new car. As expected Rodney began working on bribing me for free rides and Gene told me I was the new chaperon, that it was time for her to go back to her old tradition of only giving Leopold rides.
Before I starting carting around my friends like I was a soccer mom though, there was one thing I wanted to do. I wanted to show Lucy something I think she'd like since she was artistic and even though it wasn't on the list, I think it'd make her a bit more giddy about life.
So I set my alarm bright and early and quickly got dressed before grabbing my keys.
Gosh those words made me feel all powerful, like I could take over the world or something.
As I was unlocking my car I pulled out my phone and dialed Lucy's number before pressing it to my ear. Is it bad I memorized it? At first it seemed like she wasn't going to answer but then, right before the last ring she answered.
"Hello?" She grumbled, sounding impossibly cute. Just the thought of her eye makeup a little smeared around her eyes, her hair a mess and her pajama bottoms cuffed up over her ankles made me smile like a fool.
"Hey sleeping beauty, its your favorite," I said as I sat in the drivers seat and buckled in. I wouldn't dare start driving until I had put my phone away. I may not always be the smartest kid but I didn't want my family to get a call that I was in a car accident because I was talking on the phone.
"Ben?" She yawned loudly. "Why are you calling me at..." She paused for a moment before gasping. "Do you want to die? How dare you wake me up at five-thirty in the morning!" She scowled, making me laugh.
Awww, she wasn't a morning person. That was alright, it would give me an excuse to make her breakfast in bed or somethin-
No Ben!
Focus!
"Yeah, I'm sorry, I know its early but I want to take you somewhere before school." I informed and she groaned.
"Unless we're going to meet Johnny Depp let me sleep." She mumbled, sounding like she had fallen asleep again.
"Lucy...Lu...don't fall asleep! I need you awake and ready to go in twenty minutes. Don't worry, I'll get you some coffee on the way to pick you up in my new car," I said and before she could argue I hung up and put my phone away.
As promised I stopped at Eatology on the way to her house and got two coffees. One for her and one for me. I wasn't sure what flavor she liked so I could her something sweet. When I pulled up to her house I parked a little off to the side before pulling out my phone and calling her again.
Once again she answered right before the last ring.
''Ben...I'm sleeping...leave me alone..." She grumbled.
"I'm here Lu, come on. This will be worth it." I promised. For a long moment she was quiet then on the second story a window open and she looked out it with the phone pressed to her ear. Grinning I stuck my head out the window and waved at her. At that she glared at me before disappearing out of sight.
