As I gazed silently out of the window, my thoughts began to swirl. No matter how hard I tried to forget, my thoughts always wandered back to him. Three years seemed like a lifetime to be apart, but even after all that time my feelings hadn't faded. Maybe they never would fade away entierly? But I had to hope that one day I would be able to stop him from occupying my every waking thought.

After all.....he'd left me...packed up his belongings and walked right out of the door. My heart broke a little as I recalled the moment that he'd hesitated in the doorway, turning back to face me for the briefest of moments, before sighing and silently walking away from me. All of my hopes and plans for our future together crumbling within an instant. Three years of dating for nothing.

He was the only boyfriend I'd ever had, our families had been close, we'd grown up together and when I was sixteen we'd begun dating. It had been the best time of my life....until that one fateful day, when everything had changed. Even though I knew that it was my fault that I'd lost the love of my life, that only seemed to make it harder to bear.

"Amelia, you're going to be late for work." my sister Caitlin stated as she walked into the room, snapping me out of thoughts.

"Shit." I muttered as I glanced at the clock.

I quickly pulled on my jacket and grabbed my bag, cursing as my files spilled out onto the floor. Caitlin giggled and helped me place them back into my bag. I briefly smiled my thanks at her, before quickly leaving the house.

I sat on the train and watched the landscape rushing by. The only distraction in my life was work. I'd been lucky enough to become a personal assistant to Arthur Trestler, the billionare investor. Even though my job involved a mountain of paperwork, I found it gave me light relief.

Eventually I reached the middle of the city and quickly walked to Arthur's office. I couldn't help but gasp as I stood beneath the enormous skyscraper...even after working there a few months, it still took my breath away.

"Morning Mary." I smiled at the receptionist as I walked past.

"Amelia, wait!" she called after me.

I stopped and quickly walked back.

"I got a coffee for you." she stated, happily handing me a Starbucks cup.

"Thanks." I smiled back as I quickly took the coffee from her.

I stood in the elevator, as it slowly made it's way to the top floor, I quickly pulled off my heels and sighed in relief as I gently massaged my sore feet.

The elevator eventually came to a stop and I walked out, carrying my heels with me.

"Tom, do you have Arthur's schedule for today?" I asked him.

He smiled and handed me a folder. I smiled my thanks and walked towards Arthur's office.

"I wouldn't go in there." Tom called.

"Why not?" I frowned.

"He's in a meeting, some people showed up, they weren't on the schedule but Arthur seemed to know who they were." he explained.

"Who are they?" I asked.

He shrugged and returned to typing on the computer. I leant on the reception desk and studied Arthur's schedule for a few moments, before placing it safely in my bag. Tom watched me closely as I stood, sipping my coffee as I waited for my boss. I glanced up at Tom, my eyes darting away as he stared me unfalteringly.

"You know...maybe you and I should get a coffee sometime?" he asked nervously.

"Or not." he quickly added as I remained silent.

"It's nothing to do with you, I have feelings for someone else." I admitted, not wanting to hurt his feelings. I knew deep down that I would never be able to date again, I had scars that would never truly heal and hurts that ran too deep.

"I'm really sorry." I added gently.

"Sure, no problem." he replied, his cheeks colouring slightly.

I smiled awkwardly and turned away from him. We both jumped as the door to Arthur's office opened loudly. I slowly turned around and saw him standing with four people. As I scanned their faces I frowned to myself wondering who they could possibly be. One guy was tall and very handsome with dark hair and large eyes, another was older and wearing a hat. A beautiful ginger haired girl smiled at me and I smiled back. As my eyes continued scanning their faces I gasped as I locked eyes with the man who'd broken my heart. I would recognise those piercing blue eyes and brown hair anywhere. They belonged to Daniel Atlas.
