A couple of weeks had passed since we moved into the safe house. Even though the barn was in a dreadful state of disrepair, it had began to feel like home. Jack had hardly spoken to me since he'd found out about my engagement. Even though I tried not to let it bother me, I couldn't deny how much I missed his presence.
"Pack your stuff!" Daniel exclaimed as he quickly walked into the room.
"What's going on?" Henley asked him.
"They're here." Daniel replied as he parted the blinds and gazed out of the window.
"Quickly, get your stuff." Daniel told me.
I quickly sprung into action and began frantically stuffing my clothes into my backpack.
"Jack, Merritt!" Daniel called out.
I jumped as the two of them rushed into the room.
"Okay so here's what we do, I'll create a diversion. Henley you go South, Merritt west and Jack you take Mia east, we'll meet at the rendezvous point." he told us.
"Danny, we need to stay together." I protested.
"No, we need to split up." he insisted.
"I'll see you soon." he added, quickly pecking my lips.
I watched as he left the house, I longed to go after him. At least if something bad happened to us, it would be better if we were together. But as usual he didn't listen to me. Daniel always thought that he knew best.
"We'd better go." Jack said quickly.
I nodded and quickly followed him. As Henley and Merritt headed off in their directions, I couldn't help but feel slightly nervous. If anything was to happen to any of us, we would be alone...the others would have no way of helping us.
"Please tell me you know where the rendezvous point is?" I asked Jack as we ran into the trees.
"Yeah." he replied.
My head snapped around as I heard a noise from behind us. I could see that the FBI were following us.
"We'll lose them in the village." Jack told me as he sped up. Even though I didn't want to admit it, I was struggling to keep up with him.
I ran full pelt and followed as he climbed over the wall and ran along the rooves of the cars in the car park. Jack took my hand and helped me climb over the wall at the other side of the car park.
"Jack, I can't keep going." I wheezed.
He looked behind me and I saw him panic as he realised that they were gaining on us.
"Hide in here." he stated as he grabbed my hand and pulled me into one of the public toilets.
"Where are you going?" I asked when he turned to leave the toilet.
"I'll draw them away, stay here. I'll be back for you." he told me before quickly running away.
Daniel's POV
I smiled in satisfaction as I hid in one of the houses and watched as the FBI ran past. They'd fallen for my trick, just like I knew they would. They were so easy to fool that it almost wasn't fun.
I'd done the difficult part, all I had to do now was wait until they were a safe distance away and then I could sneak out and make a break for the rendezvous point.
A few more moments passed and I took a deep breath, quickly stepping out of my hiding place. After a quick glance left and right, I ran in the direction of the countryside. The only sound was of my feet pounding against the ground. My heart stopped for a moment and a shudder went down my spine as I heard a gunshot echo around the valley....
