"Place her here." Henley told me as she finished making the bed in our new safe house.
I nodded and gently placed Mia down on the bed. Henley watched me as I gently brushed Mia's hair away from her face.
"She looks so peaceful." I whispered.
"She's lost a lot of blood." Henley said quietly.
"Where the hell is Amy!" I exclaimed.
"Jack said she's on her way." she replied.
I nodded and kicked the floor angrily. As I watched Mia laying lifeless on the bed, the only movement from her chest slowly rising and falling as she took shallow breaths, I found myself longing to be with her. I quickly crossed the room and sat on the bed, gently lifting her head up and resting it on my lap. My thoughts wandered to what she'd told me just before she fainted, was it true, or was she just delirious? Was I really going to be a father? If she was pregnant, there would also be a chance that she'd suffer a miscarriage as a result of being shot. When Dylan had told me that we would have to pretend to be enemies, I didn't realise that involved my fiancée getting shot. She wasn't even armed, what possible reason could they have for wanting to hurt her?
My thoughts were interrupted when Amy burst into the room, carrying a medical bag.
"Jack said she's been shot." she said quickly.
"Yeah in her abdomen." I told her, watching closely as Amy inspected the wound. I placed my hand on Mia's cheek and gently stroked her hair. I flinched as I felt her move. She smiled up at me and gently kissed the palm of my hand that was resting against her cheek.
"Right, I need to take the bullet out and then I'll stitch the wound." Amy stated as she pulled out a pair of forceps.
"I can't set up a transfusion here, so we'll have to hope that she hasn't lost too much blood." she added.
Mia sat up slightly and rested her back against my chest.
"You need to keep still otherwise you might dislodge the bullet." Amy stated.
"Okay, are you ready, this is going to hurt." Amy added.
Mia nodded slowly and smiled slightly as I took her hands. Amy nodded and quickly placed the forceps into Mia's abdomen. I winced as she jumped and screamed in pain.
"Hold her down!" Amy instructed.
I took hold of Mia's shoulders and pinned her to the bed, trying to stop her from thrashing around. I'd have given anything to take her pain away.
"Can't we give her something to knock her out?" I asked, the sound of her cries breaking my heart.
"I don't have any drugs with me so no...unless you want to knock her around the head." she replied sarcastically.
"Okay, that's the bullet out." Amy smiled in satisfaction as she held up the forceps and gazed at the bullet. Mia fell silent and closed her eyes tightly.
I watched Amy closely as she took out a needle and thread and began to stitch her up.
"Thanks for doing this." I said quietly.
"It's okay, it's my job." she replied.
"If she was pregnant, would she have lost the baby?" I asked, dying to know the answer.
"I can't tell for sure without a scan, but other than that she could wait a few days and take a pregnancy test just to be sure." she said.
"Congratulations by the way." she quickly added.
"Well we don't know yet, maybe she lost a lot of blood and was confused." I said.
"Yeah possibly." she agreed.
"Okay, we're done." she said a short while later as she eventually cut the thread.
"She'll need to take these antibiotics and paracetamol, and rest up for a couple of weeks. She'll need taking care of." she told me as she handed me the boxes of tablets.
"Okay thanks." I smiled at her.
She smiled back and quickly left the room leaving me alone to worry about Mia.
