"Will you be okay if I go home?" Robyn asked as she stood in the kitchen doorway.
"Yeah no problem, thanks for taking care of him for me." I smiled.
She nodded at me and quickly left the flat, clearly picking up on the tense atmosphere. My heart plummeted as I walked back into the lounge and saw that Daniel was perched on the edge of the sofa.
"Why are you still here?!" I exclaimed indignantly.
"We have things to talk about." he said quietly.
"Really, so when you decide it's time to talk then we suddenly have to be nice to each other!" I cried.
"What are you even doing here?" I quickly added.
"The lab called and said they had received a call to redo the test, so I had to give them another DNA sample and it was a match." he explained.
"I assumed you called them." he added.
He frowned at me as I shook my head slowly. I suddenly remembered how certain Jack was that Daniel was Cameron's father. I'd be prepared to bet my life that Jack was the one who called the lab and demanded the retest.
"Jack." I whispered thoughtfully, not really realising that I'd spoken aloud.
"Why would Jack call the lab?" he frowned.
"Because unlike you he believed me!" I snapped.
"I know and I'm sorry, but I believe you now." he stated.
I froze as his words slowly sunk in. It almost didn't seem possible that after all this time, he was finally acknowledging that I had been telling him the truth the whole time.
"You..believe..me?" I whispered.
"Yeah I do." he replied, a guilty expression on his face.
I gripped onto the back of one of the chairs to prevent myself from sinking to the floor. The amount of pressure that suddenly felt like it had been taken of my shoulders was intense. It almost didn't seem real that, finally after all this time, he believed me. Warm tears rolled down my cheeks that I was powerless to stop as all the emotion that I'd been keeping in check, finally bubbled to the surface.
"Oh Mia, I'm so sorry." Daniel said sadly.
I hid my face in my hands and began to sob quietly, desperately wishing that I could be alone. I heard him cross the room and I gasped as he placed his hand on my arm. He sighed as I recoiled from his touch.
"Come here." he said quietly, trying to pull me into his arms, clearly wanting to provide me with some comfort.
"No!" I said angrily, turning my back on him.
"Mia." he whispered, taking my arm again.
"Let go of me!" I exclaimed.
He quickly let go of my arm, almost as if he'd been electrocuted. Even though I wanted someone to comfort me, I had no idea how to come to terms with the fact that he hadn't trusted me and my heart still hadn't healed after what he'd said to me.
"Don't do this okay, I know that this is all my fault, but I want to fix it." he sighed.
"I want my family back." he quickly added.
"Maybe you should have thought of that before you said what you did." I said quietly.
"I know and I'll never be able to take that back. I was just so hurt because I thought you'd betrayed me." he said sadly.
"You knew that was my achillies heel and yet you said it anyway." I whispered, turning to face him, causing him to gasp when he saw my tear stained face. He sighed sadly and rested his hand against my neck, gently wiping my tears away with his thumb. I closed my eyes slowly, my skin tingling under his touch.
"I'm so sorry, I know what Graham did to you and how it's affected you." he said gently.
My eyelids opened slowly and I sighed as I stared into his deep blue eyes. No matter what he did, the deep love that I had didn't seem like it would ever fade. I gasped in shock as I felt him gently trace his finger up my thigh through the split in my dress.
"You look stunning in that dress." he stated.
"Danny....stop." I whispered.
"I want you back...we can't be apart." he told me.
"Yes we can, it's pointless being together if you don't trust me." I pointed out.
"I do trust you, I was just being an insecure idiot. Losing you is my worst fear and I know how you feel about Jack so I guess I was afraid that I was losing you to Jack." he explained.
"And plus I desperately wanted Cameron to be my son." he added.
"I know and I told you that he was." I sighed.
"Yeah I know and I shouldn't have doubted you." he stated.
"What can I do to make it up to you?" he asked.
"I don't know." I whispered, stepping away from him. I couldn't allow my heart to rule my head and allow him back into my life.
"Can I hold my son?" he asked nervously.
"Yeah, I'll never keep you from him." I said quietly.
My heart surged with pride as I watched Daniel reach into the cot and gently pick Cameron up. As he gazed down at his son, his eyes misted with tears. He carefully sat on the sofa and cradled Cameron, I smiled as Daniel leant forward and gently kissed his forehead.
"I've missed him so much." he said quietly.
"I think he missed you too." I smiled.
He smiled slightly and as I watched the two of them together I realised that I should give the two of them a moment alone.
"I'm just going to get changed." I stated. I couldn't help but smile when he completely ignored me, clearly too intent on gazing fondly at his son. As soon as I reached my bedroom I quickly climbed out of my dress and pulled on a shirt. I jumped as I glanced in the mirror and saw Daniel standing in the doorway.
"Hey!" I exclaimed, quickly pulling on my jeans.
"I've seen you before." he pointed out.
"That's not the point." I said quickly.
"I got you something to show you how sorry I am." he announced.
"You don't have to buy me things, you just have to trust me." I sighed.
"I know and I'm going to work on it." he said quietly.
"This way." he grinned, giving me his cheeky grin and gesturing for me to follow him. I sighed and walked out of the room. He winked at me and quickly closed the bedroom door behind me. I frowned as he snapped his fingers and watched me closely.
"You can go back in now." he stated.
I glanced between him and the closed door. It felt like I was in inner turmoil. Having Daniel back in my presence gave me a warm happy feeling and for the first time in a while I finally felt relaxed. Like it was him that made me whole. I just wished that I could forget about all the hurtful things that he'd said. Maybe I should allow him another chance, maybe with time the hurt would fade away entierly. I glanced up at him before slowly placing my hand on the doorknob and opening the door.
