I sighed in relief and threw myself onto the bed as Cameron finally stopped crying. It had almost seemed relentless, as he continued crying until the early hours of the morning, but now finally at two am, silence had fallen. I quickly climbed into bed, too exhausted to even change back into my nightdress. As I gently rested my head against my pillow, I frowned as I heard a movement coming from the hallway. Caitlin was staying at her boyfriend's so I knew that it couldn't be her moving around. Goosebumps rose on my arms as I realised that there was an intruder within the flat. Maybe it was Graham, thanks to Violet's visit, he now knew where I lived, there was nothing to stop him from turning up unannounced. I gasped and sat upright in bed as I heard the creaky floorboard in the kitchen groan. My heart pounded against my chest as I quickly switched on the bedroom lamp, blinking quickly to try and adjust to the bright light. As my eyes slowly came into focus, I frowned to myself as I realised that there was nobody there. Was I just imagining the sounds? I knew that I was exhausted, but I hadn't realised that I was exhausted enough to be imagining noises from inside the flat. I quickly padded over to my bedroom door, gasping slightly as my bare feet made contact with the cold wooden floor. I tiptoed into the kitchen, jumping slightly as I switched on the light and saw that the room was empty. The flat was so silent, yet it seemed eerie, almost as though I was being watched.
I shook my head slowly, trying to clear the fog of thoughts that were swirling around. I poured myself a glass of water and sat down at the kitchen table, gazing quietly at Caitlin's laptop. Daniel's words were echoing around my head as I quickly logged onto the laptop. What did they mean by dissappear? They were already hiding from the world, so how could they disappear when they already had? I couldn't help but worry about them and what they were planning, I could only hope that it wasn't something dangerous. As I logged onto the internet, I gasped as the truth behind Daniel's words suddenly became clear. I'd wanted to hear Daniel's voice again, to be comforted by it, but wherever I looked there was no trace of them. All of the videos of the horseman's shows seemed to have vanished into thin air. This is what they meant....they had literally disappeared. Why now, after all this time had they suddenly decided to remove all traces of themselves....had something happened? I sighed angrily and slammed the laptop closed. The horseman were no longer in my life, I had to find a way to move on and stop worrying about them. As I stood up I sighed and ran my hands through my hair. No matter how much I told myself that I needed to move on, I couldn't stop worrying about them. After all Daniel was the father of my child, so I would always feel a connection with him. I quickly made my way back to my bedroom, completely exhausted after what had been a long night. As I walked into my bedroom I jumped as I heard a voice behind me:
"Hey." the voice said.
I whirled around quickly to face the intruder, terrified that someone dangerous was in the flat. My eyes widened in shock as I saw Daniel leaning casually against the wall.
"Danny?" I whispered, frowning in confusion. I had no idea what he was doing here or how he'd got there.
"What are you doing here?" I quickly added.
"I missed you both." he said quietly, his eyes darting to Cameron's cot.
"You can't be here, the FBI will find you." I stated.
"They stopped watching your house about a week ago and besides they have no evidence any more." he said, smiling slightly.
I frowned and waited for him to explain.
"That's what Jack and I have been doing for the last few weeks, Dylan sent us the cards and it turned out that he knew of a computer code that can be used to hack into any computer system. We eventually found it and removed all traces of the horseman, so now they have no evidence against us." he explained.
"But, why would you do that?" I frowned.
"So that we don't have to hide anymore, we can live normal lives." he pointed out.
"I did all of this for you, so that we don't have to hide anymore, we can raise our son without having to constantly look over our shoulders." he added, stepping towards me. He frowned as I quickly stepped back and perched on the end of the bed.
"How long have you known about this?" I asked.
"A few weeks, but I couldn't tell you until I knew for sure that it could be done, I didn't want to give you false hope." he sighed as he perched on the bed next to me.
"So that's what you were keeping from me?" I frowned, turning to face him.
"Yeah." he said quietly.
"Is that why you left, did you think I was cheating on you or something?" he added.
"No, but I thought you and Jack were committing crimes again." I sighed.
"I was trying to fix things so that we could live a normal life, and raise Cameron without having to be on the run all the time." he said.
I watched him closely and smiled slightly, he had really matured in the last few months. Even though he had worked hard to get into the eye and yet he was prepared to give it all up to ensure a safe environment for his family. A warm feeling spread through my body as I felt a surge of pride towards him. My heart thumped as he gently reached towards me and brushed his thumb against my chin.
"You have no idea how much I missed you." he whispered.
"I missed you too." I replied. Despite the fact that I was pleased to see him, I couldn't help but feel slightly apprehensive about opening my heart to him again. Maybe he wouldn't want me back after I'd left him and of course he still had no idea that I couldn't give him anymore children. He needed to know, even though it would kill me to tell him.
I jumped slightly as he leaned towards me and his soft lips brushed against mine. Butterflies swirled in my stomach as the longing and love that I felt for him was awoken once again. After kissing him back for a few moments I gently pulled away, sighing as I rested my forehead against his, our noses touching.
"What is it?" he asked gently, his warm breath against my face.
"We need to talk." I said quietly.
"Before we do that I need to ask a favour." he said quietly.
"What?" I asked.
"I went to visit Mum before I came here and she said that she'd seen you." he started, sounding slightly nervous.
"Yeah she visited yesterday and demanded to know where you were." I replied, rolling my eyes.
He smiled slightly and sighed.
"She said that you told her that you cheated on me...and the baby is Jack's." he muttered.
"I only told her that because I didn't want Graham to find out, I was trying to protect our son." I sighed.
"He is definitely mine though right?" he asked.
"Yes, we've had this conversation loads of times." I said impatiently as I quickly stood up and walked away from him. Even though I understood that Daniel had doubts, after all he knew how I felt about Jack and had always been the insecure one in our relationship, that didn't stop the frustration that I was feeling. We had known each other for years and I couldn't help but feel hurt that he didn't trust me.
"I can't help the doubts." he said quietly, seeming to realise what I was thinking.
"Well I'm getting sick of keep having to reassure you all the time." I replied.
"Well, I was thinking that..." he started but trailed off.
"What?" I frowned.
"I want a DNA test." he stated.
