A Twist Of Magic

Chapter Forty Seven

I sighed and winced as I dragged my suitcase off the top of the wardrobe. Cameron smiled up at me as he lay on the bed, watching me and gurgling happily. We hadn't heard from Jack and Daniel for the past two days. Even Merritt and Henley seemed to have no idea where they were or what was going on. I couldn't believe that he was selfish enough to leave his fiancée and son alone, he didn't seem to care about how much I missed and worried about him. I sighed as a horrible thought entered my head. Maybe Jack and Daniel hadn't been in touch because something had happened to them, maybe the FBI had caught them or maybe they were hurt somewhere. We had no way of knowing.

"We're going away for a while baby." I sighed.

Cameron smiled in response, he always beamed when someone spoke to him.

"Where are you going?" Henley asked as she walked into the room and saw me placing clothes into my suitcase.

"I can't live like this anymore, waiting around to see if he's going to come back and being on the run." I admitted.

"I know it's kinda boring sometimes, but it's not too bad." she countered.

"I didn't sign up for this Henley, you guys knew what you were doing when you tried to get into the eye, but I just went along with it." I explained.

"I want my life back and my family and I don't want to raise my son in this environment." I pointed out.

"What do you mean?" she frowned.

"Well what happens when he reaches school age, or if he's ill and needs to go to hospital." I said quietly.

"I guess so." she sighed.

"But if you leave, Daniel will miss out on seeing the baby." she pointed out.

"I know that, I don't want to leave, but I have to do right by my son, he can't grow up like this." I insisted.

"It's never going to end, Jack and Danny are probably doing another mission for the eye, to steal more money, it's just a viscous circle." I added.

"Yeah I get it." she said.

"He'll be heartbroken." she pointed out.

"He'll be fine, he'll find someone else and have a family." I said quietly.

"I don't think so, he loves you, I doubt he'd want a family with someone other than you." she replied.

I fell silent and gazed at Cameron watching him closely. Even though I'd been terrified when I first discovered that I was pregnant with him, he was the most precious thing in my life...which is why he had to come first. I would treasure him always.

"He wants more kids, he told me." I sighed, as I continued packing.

"Yeah with you." she replied.

"I can't have any more children." I said quickly.

"Wait...what?!" she exclaimed.

"Yeah." I said quietly.

"What do you mean?" she frowned.

"Do you remember when I had Cameron and I had to have emergency surgery?" I asked.

"Yeah." she replied.

"Well in order to stop the bleed they had to give me a hysterectomy." I told her.

"Wow, I had no idea." she breathed.

I shrugged and quickly looked away.

"I'm guessing Daniel doesn't know?" she asked.

"No, and you can't tell him." I said quickly.

"Why haven't you told him?" she frowned.

"Because he keeps talking about the fact that he wants more children, I didn't have the heart to tell him that we can't." I said sadly, my eyes filling with tears.

"I'm sure he would understand." she insisted.

"It's not relevant now anyway." I said shortly, as I quickly zipped up my suitcase.

"You're really leaving?" she said quietly.

"Yep." I stated, popping the 'p'.

"Will you give this to Danny for me?" I asked, handing her an envelope.

"Really, you're telling him in a letter?!" she exclaimed.

I nodded slowly, I knew it was wrong of me to explain things to Daniel in this way, but I couldn't wait around for him when I had no idea when or even if he would be returning.

"Please." I tried again, still holding the envelope out to her.

"Okay fine." she said shortly, quickly taking the envelope.

She watched me closely as I gently picked up Cameron and placed him into his car seat.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" she asked gently.

"Yep, this is for the best." I told her sadly. Even though I knew that I was doing the right thing, that didn't change the fact that I would miss the four of them terribly. They'd become a huge part of my life. I took a deep breath, picked up my suitcase and Cameron's car seat and quickly left  the house before I talked myself out of it.
