"What are you doing out of bed?" Daniel sighed as I wandered into the kitchen and casually leant against the doorframe.
"I've been in bed for three days, I can't stand it any longer." I admitted.
"You're supposed to be resting." he said smiling slightly.
I shrugged and smiled at him.
"You're lucky to still be alive, I almost lost you." he said quietly.
"Well I'm not going anywhere." I said quietly.
He nodded slowly and continued preparing the food.
"What can I do to help?" I asked.
"You can go back to bed and rest." he countered.
"Very funny." I grinned.
I turned around as Jack walked into the room.
"What are you doing out of bed?!" he exclaimed.
"That's what I said." Daniel chimed in smugly, causing me to roll my eyes in disdain.
"Fine, at least let me sit here and talk to you." I sighed as I sat on a stool at the kitchen island.
"Talk to us about what?" Jack grinned as he sat next to me.
"I don't know, anything, I'm just soooo bored." I sighed as I began casually flicking through a magazine.
Jack and I glanced at each other as we watched Daniel chopping vegetables and arranging them in perfect little piles. His desire to control everything clearly taking over. As I rolled my eyes at Jack, he bit his lip and looked away from me, clearly trying to resist the urge to burst out laughing.
"Although with all this extra time on my hands, I've found a wedding dress that I like." I announced happily.
Daniel's eyes flickered towards mine as he watched me closely.
"Let's see then." Jack asked.
I smiled and quickly found the picture on my phone, smiling excitedly as I watched him gazing at the picture.
"Wow, you'll look stunning in that." he muttered.
"Hey, let's see." Daniel piped up, trying to peer over Jack's shoulder.
"I don't think so J. Daniel Atlas!" I said sternly as I reached over and quickly took the phone from Jack and placed it in my pocket.
"Spoil sport." he sighed, winking at me. I knew how much he liked it when I used his full name.
"It's bad luck for you to see the dress." I pointed out.
"You do realise we won't be able to have a proper wedding, it'll just be really small, we won't even be able to invite our families, in case the FBI notice." Daniel pointed out.
"Yeah I know." I sighed.
"I'm sorry, I wanted you to have better." he sighed sadly.
"It's fine, we'll just have to make the best of it." I said quietly. Even though I was disappointed that Caitlin wouldn't be able to be the bridesmaid at my wedding, I had no regrets. The last few days had shown me that Daniel really did care about me and would be there when I needed him. He protected me and took care of me and I would never find anyone who loved me as much as him. I couldn't wait to marry him and to be able to call him my husband.
"Merritt could get ordained and he could marry us." I suggested.
"That would be kinda awesome." Jack agreed.
I nodded enthusiastically and raised my eyebrow at Daniel as I waited for his response.
"At least that way we could get married on our own terms." he agreed.
"And...maybe.." I started but trailed off.
"Maybe, what?" Daniel asked.
"I was going to ask if Jack would give me away?" I asked, turning to Jack.
Daniel smiled at me and watched Jack closely.
"You don't have too." I added quickly, when Jack didn't respond.
He continued staring at me a strange look in his eye, that I couldn't interpret. I looked away sadly, he clearly couldn't bring himself to give me away to Daniel. Even though he knew it meant a lot to me he still couldn't bring himself to say yes.
"Jack." Daniel prompted, glancing at me sadly as he realised how hurt I was by Jack's silence.
"I'd be honoured." he said eventually.
"Really?" I giggled happily.
He nodded and quickly pulled me into a tight hug.
"Ouch, be careful with me." I said wincing slightly at the pain from my wound.
"Sorry." he said, quickly letting go of me and gazing at me softly. Something was different between me and Jack the last few days. A tension was present that hadn't been there before. It was almost as though he was dying to ask me something but couldn't quite bring himself too. I had no idea what it was, but I found myself wishing that he would get it over with and just talk to me about whatever was bothering him. Daniel smiled and turned his back on me, as he stirred the contents of the saucepan. Jack was watching me closely, making me feel slightly uncomfortable under his gaze.
"That smells amazing." I told Daniel.
"Come and try some." he suggested.
I gently stood up trying to ignore the pain in my abdomen every time that I moved. He smiled and gently wrapped his arm around my waist as I rested my elbow on his shoulder. I opened my mouth slowly as he gently moved the spoon towards me.
"Wow, who knew that you could cook." I whispered as I tasted the food.
"It's just one of my many talents." he grinned.
I laughed along with him and gently rested my head against his arm. As I turned slightly I locked eyes with Jack, who was watching the two of us closely. I sighed and quickly looked away from him.
