~Dean~
"Sammy, I swear to God, if you return here again without a pie I will personally hire a clown to come and watch you sleep every night for the rest of the year", I warned my brother seriously.
"Okay, okay!" Sam held up his hands in a mock-surrender position and there was slight fear in his eyes, "Just...not clowns".
I threw him the keys to the Impala and leant back on the sofa, my eyes blankly staring at the TV.
"I'll be back in twenty minutes", Sam caught the keys and shut the door on his way out.
I sighed heavily and switched the TV off. I couldn't just sit here for twenty minutes. I had to find a job. Sam and I hadn't killed any sons of bitches in days.
Eventually, I decided to walk over to a house I read about in the newspaper. It said that a man had disappeared all night and, when he returned back in the morning, he completely turned and brutally murdered his two daughters and tortured his wife.
Throwing on my leather jacket, I walked outside and stopped in the driveway.
"Damn it", I rolled my eyes when I remembered Sam took the Impala.
The feeling of emptiness dramatically hit me when I realised I had to cope without Baby and I would have to walk. Dear God, no. It hadn't come to this.
It turned out to be only half an hour away but I only made it to twenty minutes because, on the way there, I heard a familiar scream come from the alley way.
Instinct took over my body and I ran as fast as I could to see if my suspicions were true. And they were.
"Cas?!" I called with confusion.
Two demons had him against the brick wall; one was repeatedly punching him in the face and the other had a knife pressed against his throat. I angrily brought out my demon-killing knife and grabbed one of the demon's collars before plunging the knife deep into his chest. The traditional gold glow took over the demon's face and wound before it fell to the floor. I repeated the same action with the other demon and Cas breathlessly glanced up at me.
"Thank you", he breathed out.
"Thank you?" I echoed with disbelief, "What the hell just happened, Cas? You normally kill demons in under a second".
"I know", Cas nodded, "They caught me off guard".
I decided to dismiss it but his expression told me that something was wrong. I looked properly at his bruised and bloodied face.
"God, Cas, look at you", I shook my head, "Come on, we need to get you back to ours".
Cas hesitantly followed me back to the apartment. When we returned, Sam still wasn't back which was strange considering I was gone for way over twenty minutes.
Cas sat himself down on a chair and I retrieved a wet towel. I sat opposite him and gently pressed the towel against his cheek where the bleeding was worse. He didn't flinch once. Obviously he had experienced much worse.
"Dean, you don't have to-'
"Just shut up and stop moving", I demanded and accurately wiped away the rest of the blood. His left eye was turning purple by now.
Cas kept squirming around on the chair and I couldn't clearly see how bad his injuries were. Eventually, his squirming got too annoying so I just grabbed his face with my hand to make him face me properly. It was only then that I noticed his neck was bleeding too. The blade must have cut in slightly.
"It doesn't hurt", Cas reassured me when he noticed me looking concerned.
"Yeah, well it will in the morning", I informed him, removing my hand away from his face and standing up to get a can of beer.
"Want one?" I asked, scanning the fridge.
When he didn't reply, I turned around but he was gone, followed by the sound of angel wings.
I sighed.
"Friggin' angels".
