"I'm going to get blood on the sheets", Sam looked down at his bed.

"I'll sort it out in the morning", Dean reassured him before Sam got in.

Dean followed me out of Sam's room, stopping to turn the lights out. Once he had shut the door, Dean looked at me and sighed.

"I'm gonna turn in early", Dean told me, gesturing to his bedroom door, "This apartment has a spare room".

I looked behind me towards the door that contained my bed for tonight. I nodded back at Dean before he turned around to go to his room.

I decided to go straight into bed as well, seeing as there was nothing else to do. I must have been laying in that bed for three hours without actually sleeping until I eventually gave up trying and stood up. I opened the door and stood hopelessly in the middle of the apartment. My eyes drifted towards Dean's bedroom door.

I thought about it for a few seconds until I walked over to the door, hesitating but soon lightly knocking three times. I heard Dean groan but he didn't answer. I knocked again.

"What?" Dean called out, his voice slightly croaky.

I slowly opened the door and Dean squinted at me through the darkness.

"Cas?" Dean whispered, turning over to peer at his alarm clock, "It's one o clock in the morning".

"I...I can't sleep", I told Dean and he sighed, his head falling back into his pillow, "Dean?"

He didn't reply.

"Dean?"

"What?" Dean said into his pillow.

"Can I sleep in here?" I asked shyly.

"You want me to go and sleep in your bed?" Dean asked, finally sitting up and yawning.

"No", I shook my head.

"Then what?"

Dean was still squinting and his eyes looked tired. His hair was messy and I only just realised that he was shirtless. Dean brought his hand up to rub his eyes and he yawned again.

"Can I sleep in here with you?" I asked more clearly.

"What?" Dean let out a small laugh, "No!"

"Why?"

"Because it's weird!" Dean replied, "People don't just sleep in the same bed unless they're..."

Dean's voice trailed off.

"Unless they're what?" I questioned, not understanding.

Dean sighed, too tired to explain, and took his second pillow to place it on the empty side of his double bed.

"If you snore once, you're out", Dean warned me and I smiled satisfactorily as I shut the door and walked over to his bed.

I pulled back the corner of the cover and quietly got in. Dean's had his back to me. I managed to lay still for a while until I got bored again.

"Dean?"

I heard Dean sigh again.

"What is it now, Cas?" Dean asked with annoyance.

"How do I actually do it?" I asked, "How do I sleep?"

Dean turned over to face me and, through the darkness, I could just about make out his green eyes staring at me lazily.

"You've done it before, haven't you?" Dean asked, "You slept when you were human before".

"Yes but I never learned how to sleep peacefully", I explained, "I had bad dreams".

"About what?"

"It alters", I responded, "Sometimes I dream about Heaven and how I betrayed my family".

"Just don't think about that anymore", Dean told me, "You're with us now. Try and think about things that lift your spirits before you fall asleep and hopefully you'll have nice dreams then".

I thought about that tactic for a while and then smiled.

"Thank you, Dean".

Dean laughed slightly before burying the side of his face deeper in the pillow.

"Go to sleep", Dean almost whispered.

My eyes were getting used to the pitch black darkness and I could see Dean closing his eyes. He didn't turn around this time. For a few seconds, I watched how peaceful he was before closing my own eyes and trying it his way.

I woke up feeling the most comfort I had ever felt in my entire existence on Earth. The pillow I was laying on felt more soft, the covers over me felt more supporting and everything just felt smooth. I couldn't figure out why until I opened my eyes. The soft pillow I was supposedly laying on was not a pillow and the supporting covers were not what I thought they were. As I adjusted to the light, I realised that the "pillow" was Dean's bare chest and the "covers" were Dean's muscular arms wrapped tightly around me. Our bodies were so closely squeezed together and the strangest thing was the fact that...it felt so normal.

I must have moved slightly when I woke up because I noticed Dean's eyes opening as well. To my surprise, he groaned with tiredness and turned to bury his face in my shoulder. I was confused. A few seconds later, he finally realised what he was doing and his head shot back before he released me quickly.

"Cas?" Dean sat up automatically, rubbing his eyes with confusion. I saw him trying to remember, "Sorry. Force of habit".

Dean ran his hands through his messed-up hair with embarrassment.

"Uh, did you get to sleep?" Dean awkwardly asked, not looking me in the eyes.

"Yes", I answered.

Dean leant over to the floor to swipe a grey t-shirt in his hands. He threw it over his body before standing up.

"Lay in", Dean told me, his smile weak, before opening the door and shutting it quickly on his way out.
