~Castiel~
"Do you know what's abnormal?" I randomly said to which Dean glanced at me from over his phone, "Other than Charlie and Lucifer, none of the other undead people have turned up".
Dean turned his phone off and furrowed his eyebrows.
"What do you mean?" Dean asked.
"Well, think about it", I suggested, "Azazel, Dick, Ruby. They've only made one appearance, haven't they? I don't know about Ruby but Dick and Azazel said that they would return and yet nothing's happened".
"I don't know, Cas", Dean shrugged, "Maybe they're gonna turn up when we expect it the least".
"It just seems strange", I muttered thoughtfully, mostly to myself.
"Try not to worry about it", Dean told me, desperately trying to change the subject, "How are you feeling?"
I gave him a clueless expression.
"Well, you did pass out on me yesterday", Dean reminded me.
"Oh, that", I shrugged carelessly, not thinking too much about it, "I'm fine".
"Cas", Dean sighed, unconvinced, standing up and walking over to me, "You and I both know that's not true".
Dean reached his hands out to place them in mine, profoundly looking me in the eyes. He traced circles on one of my hands with his thumb and I inhaled deeply.
"Okay, maybe I don't always feel too well", I admitted, staring down at our hands, "But there's nothing that can be done right now".
"I could try and help you if you'd just let me", Dean expressed, almost frustratedly, "You have no idea how much it kills me to see you in pain"
"I don't-"
"All I wanna do is..." Dean breathed out, his hands abandoning mine and cupping my face instead, "make sure your okay and protect you. I mean, you're the most strongest person I've ever met and I know that you can take care of yourself. But sometimes I look at you and I just wanna wrap my arms around you and keep you safe".
Dean tenderly pulled my body into him and enclosed me in his grip, planting a delicate kiss against my forehead.
"Let me take care of you", Dean spoke in an almost-whisper.
Leaning back to look at him, I held Dean's wrists softly.
"But I'm worried", I told him, my voice breaking slightly.
"So am I", Dean replied frustratedly.
His eyes flickered to each of mine for a few seconds, trying to see through me. Dean suddenly noticed how tight his grip was on my shoulders. He immediately released me, almost as if he was scared of hurting me. He sighed at my confused expression and then smiled apologetically.
"Sorry", Dean mumbled, looking down at the ground before wrapping his arms delicately around my waist again, "I, uh...It just irritates me, you know? It's good to feel needed sometimes".
"Of course I need you!" I hurriedly said, "Dean, I couldn't live without you. I just really, really don't want you to get hurt, okay?"
"Alright, so why can't you understand that we both have the exact same problem here?" Dean questioned, getting angered again, "You wanna protect me, I wanna protect you. It works both ways, Cas. We're either in this together or we're not".
"Why can't you just accept that I don't want you getting hurt?" I argued and Dean let go of my waist, sighing with frustration, "Especially if I'm the reason for it. Let's just enjoy what we have without you needing to risk your life all the time to try and help me. Listen, I know that you're used to being a martyr for the people you love. Believe me, I know. You and Sam have died for each other more times that I can remember. But count me out of this".
"You can't say that", Dean snapped, his eyes almost teary, "You can't tell me not to fight for you. If you're ever in danger, I would happily give myself up to save-"
"Don't you dare say that", I spoke in a furious tone which made Dean take a surprised step back, "Don't even finish that sentence. I wouldn't let you. Not for me, not for anyone. No matter how many times it's happened already, I'm not letting you sacrifice yourself again, Dean".
"So, what then? You're gonna ban me from trying to save my friends?" Dean asked, "You're gonna stop me from trying to keep my brother alive? You're gonna stop me from protecting the angel I freakin' love and would do anything for? You think you're strong enough to do that? Nothing could stop me from saving my family".
Pressing my lips together tightly, I nodded with subtle disbelief and tried to contain my fury. Laughing coldly to myself, I looked him harshly in the eyes.
"You're an idiot", I told him through gritted teeth.
"Excuse me?" Dean looked taken aback.
"You're a foolish, clueless idiot", I expanded, my eyes darkening and jaw tightening, "You just let yourself die without a care in the world. Don't you even care the tiniest but about yourself?"
Dean didn't reply. My angry facial expressions loosened slightly when I looked up at his solemn face.
"Don't you?" I asked again, feeling scared of the answer.
Dean studied my face. I stared up at him sympathetically but his face remained straight and hurt. His tearful eyes suddenly turned into anger. He moved his face slightly closer to mine and looked me hard in the eyes.
"Screw you", Dean said harshly before walking away from me and into the bathroom.
