~Dean~

"Where is he taking Sam?!" I asked Cas with panic.

"I don't know", Cas replied and the tension was still awkward between us.

"Well, just zap us to where they are!" I demanded, grabbing his arm and forcefully pressing it against my forehead. Cas didn't make any attempt to do anything, "What are you waiting for?! If this is about earlier, I'm-"

"No, Dean", Cas removed his hand from my head, "It's not that. I...I can't".

"But Sam's in danger!" I argued, starting to get angry.

"I know", Cas said, looking guilty.

"Look, we'll discuss what happened later", I told him, "Just teleport us there!"

"Dean", Cas snapped, his eyes becoming darker with sternness, "I can't".

He said the last two words with gritted teeth with caused me to frown at him with confusion.

"Cas, what's going on?" I asked.

Cas sighed, obviously wanting to avoid the question. But there was no way out of this now. I went to touch his arm but he flinched away.

"You can tell me", I promised him with softness in my voice.

"Look, Dean, when I tell you this you need to swear to me not to try and do anything about it", Cas said.

"Yeah, I swear", I nodded quickly, eager to know what was wrong.

"I lost my angel grace", Cas exhaled, trying to look away but failing and glancing at me every few seconds cautiously.

I stayed silent for a while, thinking about it.

"So, this means-"

"I'm losing my powers", Cas replied.

"But then that means-"

"I'm becoming human, Dean".

I nodded slightly and Cas frowned at my reaction.

"Say something, yell at me, anything, Dean", Cas said with annoyance.

"It's just..." I paused, reconsidering.

"What?" Cas asked, looking paranoid. I didn't reply. Cas got even more irritated, "What, Dean?"

"Is it really such a bad thing?" I shrugged.

"Of course it is", Cas snapped, "Did you not understand what I said?"

"Look, the way I see it is", I started, "You wanted to distance yourself as far away from Heaven as possible, right? Maybe this is a good thing, becoming one of us. You're family, Cas. Sam and I could teach you how to...well, be human".

"What is wrong with you?" Cas walked to the other side of the room with fury and I watched him, not understanding why he was so mad, "I've been on Earth for years, Dean. The one thing that has been keeping me alive is my powers. If I become human, I will most likely be dead in the first few weeks".

"Of course you won't", I told him sternly, "Because we will protect you, no matter what it takes, Cas. For as long as we're alive".

"But..." Cas sighed shakily, getting worked up, "But it was supposed to be me protecting you".

"You can still do that", I consoled him, "Just in a different way".

Cas didn't say anything for a while but he eventually shook his head and walked past me again, over to a random cabinet.

"Well, it doesn't matter anyway because Crowley's getting my grace back", Cas opened the cabinet door, his eyes searching for something.

"I wouldn't trust Crowley if I were you", I warned him.

"He'll get it", Cas spoke through gritted teeth and then closed his eyes in frustration, "But, for the mean time, you're going to have to help me with this".

"I thought you said not to help", I reminded him with a small smile.

"Not with that", Cas shook his head, calming down and returning the smile. He looked back towards the cabinet, "I think it's starting. I'm starting to feel the effect of human qualities. And I'm starving".

I walked over to him and closed the cabinet door. Cas almost pouted at the loss of the sight of food like a begging puppy.

"Well, I am just the guy you need", I told him, "There's a pizza place a few minutes away from here".

"I've heard many good things about pizza", Cas remarked with a smirk on his face for some reason.

"Well, come on then!" I was already at the door.

Cas smiled and followed me.
